Old friends: Roberto Mancini played under Sven-Goran Eriksson at Lazio

Roberto Mancini's agent dismisses link with Notts County

13 Oct 2009

Roberto Mancini's agent insists the Italian is not in contention for the vacant managerial post at Notts County.

Maurizio De Giorgis has dismissed claims the Magpies director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson has been in talks with Mancini following Ian McParland's departure yesterday.

Mancini played under Eriksson when the Swede was in charge of Sampdoria and Lazio and the pair remain good friends.

But De Giorgis told the Nottingham Evening Post. "There is no truth in it whatsoever, with all the respect for Notts County and their project.

"Maybe people have put together Roberto and Notts County because he is good friends with Sven. But you have to remember Roberto has managed Inter Milan.

"There has never been any contact. He might have spoken to Sven since he joined Notts County, but that is not unusual because they are good friends."

Mancini is just one of a host of names to be linked with the Meadow Lane club since McParland's exit.

Former England midfielder David Platt was the initial bookmakers favourite for the post, while the likes of Steve Coppell, Peter Taylor and Alan Curbishley have also been touted as potential candidates.

County have confirmed Eriksson will be responsible for the appointment of their new boss.

McParland's number two Dave Kevan and youth team boss Michael Johnson are set to take caretaker charge for Saturday's Coca-Cola League Two match against Rotherham, although this has yet to be officially confirmed by the club.
