Ronald Koeman's confident that Alkmaar can exploit Arsenal's weaknesses

Ronald Koeman believes he has identified weaknesses in Arsenal's team that can help his AZ Alkmaar side cause a Champions League upset tonight.

The Dutchman admits he has been impressed with the Gunners' freescoring form of late and sat in the stands as they thrashed Blackburn 6-2 before a 3-1 victory against Birmingham City last weekend.

But Koeman, who is perhaps most famously remembered in England for avoiding a red card and a penalty despite tugging back David Platt in the penalty area during a crucial World Cup qualifier in 1993, believes his side have the capability to pull off an unlikely victory should Arsenal not perform to their best.

He said: "Maybe for us it will be easier to play against such a good team. We all know football can be a funny game, in which anything is possible.

"It starts with belief, then we all have to be at the top of our game and they must not be.

"If we let them play their football then we will be in deep trouble, so this is where our task lies.

"We have to be well organised, but also have to be good individually and be very sharp in covering their top players.

"But they also have their weaknesses. I saw Arsenal live against Blackburn and Blackburn had four chances to score. Maybe Arsenal had 14 but still, they are a joy to watch. However, they also suffer defeats every now and then in the Premier League and Champions League."

Defender Kew Jaliens is equally confident that his team-mates can succeed despite only picking up one point from their opening two matches in Group H.

"Everything is still possible in our section,'' said Jaliens.

"I am feeling optimistic. We didn't feel that we were the weaker side in the two previous games and we need to prove that in the remaining fixtures.

"In terms of points it is still completely open. You have to give it 100 per cent and see where it takes you. You always have to go into a game with a positive attitude.

"We are a footballing team of the Dutch school; we have good positional play, create chances, play an attacking kind of football. In a way we are the Dutch Arsenal.

"We play football well and like to get as close to the goal as possible to cash in on the opportunities that we create."
