Millwall to ban fan for Galatasaray taunts

Dean Jones

Millwall have vowed to ban for life the supporter who was seen taunting Leeds fans by wearing a Galatasaray shirt and appearing to make stabbing gestures.

The incident marred Saturday's 2-1 win for Millwall at The Den, who already have a Football Association charge hanging over them following the crowd trouble at the Carling Cup match with West Ham in August.

Two Leeds fans died before their Champions League clash with Galatasaray in 2000 and Millwall chief executive Andy Ambler said: “We didn't see the man wearing the Galatasaray shirt, but we will try to identify him from CCTV and photographs and if we do, he will be banned.”

Charlton kept up the pressure on Leeds at the top of League One with a 1-1 draw at Gillingham, while Brentford beat Stockport 3-0.

Dagenham and Redbridge drew 2-2 at Macclesfield in League Two despite playing for 80 minutes with 10-men after defender Abu Ogogo was sent off.

They trailed by two goals, but then Wesley Thomas scored and Mark Arber grabbed an injury-time equaliser from the penalty spot.

Manager John Still said: “I've got a very, very enthusiastic have-a-go football team.”

Barnet enjoyed up a 3-0 win at home to Darlington as Ismail Yakubu, Nicky Deverdics and Yannick Bolasie netted.

"Just amazed that a club whose fans are, shall we say, Pro-English,"

So you think Millwall supporters are all Pro-English? or are you just talking out the side of your mouth, pretending Millwall are a bunch of racists while West Ham would never stoop so low? because if you are, you've been going to a different ground to me all these years. Unlike you I've been to Millwall outside of our games with them, having friends and family over there, and you're being a very, very dishonest man on this point.

" can take delight in their fellow countrymen being murdered while representing their club and country abroad."

As opposed to "taking delight" in their fellow countrymen being run over by trains? I'm failing to see the difference - could you point it out to me?

"despite wrecking 200 seats "

We win that one hands down as well, or were'nt you counting at The New Den?

- East, London - So its your second post and your still yet to comment on the Hungary flags in the Leeds end, aswell as there contstant references to the Munich air disaster. Do you find that acceptable? Or are you a Daily Mail reading hypocrite who would rather pre-judge people before finding out the full story. At the end of the day all clubs have there idiots, you should know more than most being West Ham. Your mob sing songs about our lad going under a train - difference is we dont cry about it.....leave that to the scousers.

agree with you tim, millwall innocent!!! seats and a toiet block damaged all we're millwall fans was, it dos'nt take a genius to work out the culprits.

How absolutely awful. How could those nasty Millwall animals at a football match do such a thing to those gentle, innocent, utterly peaceable and charming Leeds United supporters, who let it be said, are mostly in the Salvation Army*
They must still be in shock, the poor delicate things. The stess may even make them start acting like dim-witted racist thugs, which of course none of them ever were before this upsetting incident drove them over the edge.
Shame on you Millwall! Lets hope that justice will be done in all cases. Ban these silly fellows, and dock West Ham the points they wriggled out of when they should have been relegated for wiping their bottoms on the rule book the other year.

* because the soups free.

No high horse Ertash. Just amazed that a club whose fans are, shall we say, Pro-English, can take delight in their fellow countrymen being murdered while representing their club and country abroad. Fierce club rivalries are one thing, delighting in the deaths of fathers, brothers, sons while following their team abroad, and England's World Cup-winning captain, is another. I think the fact that you regard my disgust as being "on my high horse" says all we need to know about you lot.

What a sad man thats all I can say. Anyway Leeds played Galatasaray in the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup not the Champions League as Galatasaray went on to beat Arsenal in the final. Do your research before publishing these articles.

I take it when you two have come down from that horse that you will also comment on the leeds fans waving hungary and ferencvaros flags.....not to mention their songs re munich.

Nice to see the Millwall fans reinforcing the stereotypical image everybody else (rightly) has of them!

One fan? Have a look on youtube. Hundreds of them singing "Istanbul" and "always look out for Turks carrying knives". The same Millwall claiming their fans were totally innocent at the West Ham game, despite wrecking 200 seats and a toilet block and singing sick songs about Bobby Moore. English fans glorifying in the deaths of compatriots murdered watching their club. Animals, plain & simple.
