Showdown: Harry Redknapp is confident Tottenham will claim north London bragging rights

Harry Redknapp: ‘we’re coming to get you, Arsenal’

30 Oct 2009

Harry Redknapp today warned Arsenal that his Tottenham side are now capable of taking their crown as the best team in north London.

Spurs, who have constantly been in the shadow of their near neighbours since Arsene Wenger's arrival as manager, have not beaten the Gunners in the League since 1999 and have not won at Arsenal for 16 years.

But Redknapp, whose side are level on points with Wenger's team in fourth place ahead of tomorrow's lunchtime kick-off at Emirates Stadium, believes Spurs now boast the strength in depth and self-belief necessary to overhaul Arsenal as they aim to secure Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.

He said: "We're getting closer to them, without a doubt. They're an outstanding team and a great club, full of outstanding young talent.

"Arsene has done a great job there over the years. He inherited a great team and then moulded his own team and produced great young players.

"They play fantastic football but so do we. We have a squad here capable of matching anyone so we will be going there to win the game, absolutely. We always go for it and we only know one way to play.

"We'll be positive and take it to them. Certain parts of our game can cause them problems and we have to take it to them and give them something to think about it."

Wenger agreed today that Spurs have become more of a threat under Redknapp but still believes his team will prevail tomorrow.

He said: "Yes, of course, Harry is a quality manager and when you have good players and a good manager against you, you have got to be at your best. We have the drive and desire to do well, though and we will never switch off. It is a long time since Spurs have beaten us and that just shows you what meaning this game has.”
