Standing down: Alan Curbishley said he had no option but to quit West Ham

West Ham to pay Alan Curbishley compensation

3 Nov 2009

Alan Curbishley today won his case for wrongful dismissal against West Ham after claiming he had no option but to resign last year.

A Premier League managers' arbitration tribunal ruled Curbishley was justified in his actions because the club sold Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney to Sunderland against his wishes.

The tribunal, which dismissed a counter claim from West Ham, has yet to decide on compensation but it is expected the cash-strapped Hammers will have to pay their former manager at least £1million.

Curbishley said: “On joining the club I insisted my contract contained a clause confirming that I would have final say on the selection of players to be transferred to and from the club.

“The club completely ignored my contract when selling Ferdinand. When McCartney was then sold, the club having given me assurances that no players would be leaving the club after the sale of Ferdinand, I had no alternative but to resign.”

curbs, saved the club, kept us in the premiership. he is a surporter of us and he tried his best. at charlton he was probably one of the best managers around but with the chaiman and owners mucking him around ans all up at upton,he deserves that money. if things were difffrent we may have done even better, and be in uefa or better.

Thanks Alan.

Thanks for blowing the biggest budget any West Ham manager has ever had on utter dross (bar Behrami, but even monkeys get lucky with dartboards now and again).

Thanks for the mind-numbingly atrocious football.

Thanks for the entire squad of crocks you bought.

Thanks for benching Tevez for most of your time at the helm.

Thanks for one of the worst seasons I've ever endured.

And now, thanks for this.

True fan, Alan, true and proper fan.

Good luck to Curbs for winning his case, but if we're all honest aren't we (as Hammers fans) just a little pleased and relieved to see the back of such a mediocre manager?

I'd much rather see the Irons play with Zola in charge - if Curbs was still at the Boleyn would we be where Charlton are now?

Will this mean that West Ham will go in to administration as they are up to their eyeballs in debt?

We can only hope...

I think Duxbury should pay Curbs compensation from his own pocket. This cock ups this has made at West Ham beggers belief. The Tevez fiasco is down to him, that cost us £25 million. Now this. All I can say is he must has some kind of hold over the club, and if he gets the sack ,all will be revealed

The bungling malfeasance of the West Ham CEO Scott Duxbury, starting with his legal eagle oversight of FA rules on third party ownership, ending with this successful claim by Alan Curbishley and sandwiching another faux pas which ended up in compensation to Sheffield United, with legal fees included, has cost the club nearer £50m than £40m.

And yet there are West Ham fans calling Curbishley all the names under the sun because he secured what he was contractually entitled to from a club which disgracefully and constructively kicked him out of the club.

Can anyone please tell me why Scott Duxbury still has a job in football ?
