Alan Curbishley has emerged as a candidate for the Hull job should they decide to part with manager Phil Brown.
Hull's executive chairman Adam Pearson has said the club will stand by Brown for the time being but that may change if there is no improvement in results.
Curbishley won his case against West Ham for constructive dismissal yesterday. He resigned as manager of the Hammers in September 2008 after alleging that the club were in breach of contract when they sold two players - Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney - against his wishes.
The verdict means he could be awarded up to £2million in compensation.
It is understood the club's owner, Icelandic bank Straumur, had budgeted for the possibility that the case would end in a pay-out and that it will make no difference to its plans for January. That should mean Matthew Upson, Carlton Cole and Robert Green will not have to be sold.
