Millwall 4-1 AFC Wimbledon

Neil Harris was delighted to fire Millwall into the second round of the FA Cup after beating non-League AFC Wimbledon in front of new heavyweight world champion David Haye.

Bermondsey boy Haye, a Millwall fan, received a standing ovation from both sets of fans and Harris admitted it was a pleasure to see him at The Den.

The Conference side battled well and held their south London rivals until the interval. But Harris scored within three minutes of the restart as the League One side proved their quality.

Harris agreed that the first goal was crucial. "That was so important," he said. "If they score it, then it's back to the walls for us and the pressure is really on.

"With us nicking the first goal it meant they had to come out and play a bit more, which left us a bit more space.

"As a group of players, we were disappointed with how we played in the first half. All credit to Wimbledon, they really harried and hassled us and didn't let us settle on the ball."

Following the opener, which came courtesy of a fine assist from Steve Morison, substitute Jason Price doubled Millwall's lead in the 70th minute when he reacted quickest to a goalmouth scramble.

Lewis Taylor's stunning finish nine minutes from the end gave the Dons a glimmer of hope as he got in behind Alan Dunne and confidently beat the stranded David Forde.

But their dreams were dashed when man-of-the-match keeper James Pullen was beaten by a brilliant curling effort from Danny Schofield before Price grabbed his second of the game in the dying minutes.

Wimbledon brought more than 3,300 fans with them and they created a terrific derby atmosphere.

"Without being disrespectful, this was their Cup final, and rightly so," Harris said. "It was a local derby and a pleasure to play in.

"Coming from non-League myself, I'm absolutely delighted for them. They got to come and play at our place, show their support and the size that the club can be.

"To have almost 10,000 in for the first round of the FA Cup against a non-League club is different class."

Dons manager Terry Brown was proud of his players but said: "It's tinged with disappointment that we are gallant losers again.

"It's easy to say the scoreline flattered them but the truth is we gave them a couple of goals at the end. We were sloppy but we were trying to sling players forward. I think their extra quality caused us some problems."

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett admitted he had been concerned about facing Wimbledon. He said: "I saw them play against Crawley a couple of weeks ago and I was genuinely worried about this game."

Jackett's side will be away to another non-League team, Staines, in the second round.

What a good decent team AFC Wimbledon are and their support was fantastic. They are on their way back up the league without a shadow of doubt and would love to see them rise above the Mickey Mouse mk dons.
Millwall salutes you and look forward when one day very soon we play against each other in the league.
