Gus Poyet looks poised to rescue Brighton

Gus Poyet is in line to become the new manager of Brighton.

Poyet was interviewed by Brighton chairman Tony Bloom and is set to be appointed ahead of Sunday's match at Southampton, when the Uruguyan celebrates his 42nd birthday.

The former Tottenham assistant manager has been out of football since he was axed, along with Juande Ramos, a year ago. Brighton are one place above the League One relegation zone and sacked Russell Slade last week.

Meanwhile, Peterborough have parted company with manager Darren Ferguson.
