Greg Dyke hopeful Andy Scott will snub strugglers

Brentford chairman Greg Dyke confirmed the club have been sounded out by Peterborough over the possibility of manager Andy Scott taking over at London Road.

Dyke received an enquiry from the Championship strugglers in the wake of Darren Ferguson's departure on Monday by mutual consent. Scott signed a five-year deal over the summer after earning promotion to League One. Although the club are 16th in the table, Dyke is hopeful the 37-year-old will stay at Griffin Park.

“There was an approach from Peterborough earlier in the week, but as yet I have heard nothing further on the matter,” said Dyke.

“My understanding is they are working through a shortlist of four candidates.

“You'd have to ask Andy if managing Peterborough — who are bottom of the Championship — is a better job.”

Brentford's acting chief executive, David Heath, knows Peterborough director of football Barry Fry is a fan of Scott but said: “Andy is very much an integral part of our plans and we don't want him going anywhere. He is very important to what we are trying to achieve at Brentford.”

Peterborough have also asked to speak to Kettering manager Mark Cooper after being denied permission to talk to Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe yesterday.
