Carlo Cudicini future in doubt after he suffers serious bike crash

Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was rushed to hospital after crashing his motorbike in London today. The former Chelsea star — whose career could now be in serious doubt — is being treated after receiving injuries described by police as “possibly life changing”.

The goalkeeper broke his wrists and damaged his pelvis when his BMW superbike collided with a Ford Fiesta on Forest Road, Walthamstow, at 10.30am.

Ambulance crews arrived on the scene before the air-ambulance landed nearby, but it was not used.
A police spokesperson confirmed: “A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life changing and was taken to an East London hospital for further treatment.”

An eyewitness immediately recognised Cudicini as he lay on the roadside as crowds gathered.
Tottenham released a statement and said: “Carlo Cudicini has fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis after being involved in a road accident this morning. He has been admitted to hospital and undergone scans under the supervision of club medical staff. The club will update supporters on Carlo as soon as there is any further information.”

The female driver and a child passenger walked away from the car — which was described as a write off' — and did not need hospital treatment. Roads were closed in the area after the incident. Questions will be asked why the keeper was riding a motorbike, which is thought to be in breach of his contract. Cudicini arrived at White Hart Lane in January having been signed by Harry Redknapp on a free transfer after a decade of service at Chelsea.

The Italian has made eight appearances standing in for the injured Heurelho Gomes this season and is keen to stay beyond next summer, when his contract expires. Cudicini said last month: “My contract is about to expire but I would be happy to remain at Spurs. However, I would consider Italian clubs if that wasn't possible.”

He made his name at Chelsea, joining the club from Castel Di Sangro in 1999, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal. Cudicini was first choice for four seasons at Stamford Bridge until the arrival of Petr Cech but was then happy to play understudy to the Blues No1 until his move to Spurs.

Clubs should sign players not to ride bikes or sports cars and these accidents would not happen. When did the last person get injured in an S class. (Royalty excluded!)

I wish him all the best.

You would have thought that his club would have banned him and anybody else from riding a motor cycle. Even a minor accident can result in a serious injury!
