Guus Hiddink ponders his future after Russia failure

Guus Hiddink needs "time for thought" over his future after his Russia side failed to qualify for next summer's World Cup.

The Dutchman, who took temporary charge of Chelsea at the end of last season, intends to sit down with the Russian FA before making a decision on his plans.

Following the 1-0 defeat in Slovenia last night which saw the Andrey Arshavin-inspired Russians lose 2-2 on away goals, Hiddink said: "The question [of whether I will continue to Euro 2012] will require some time for thought.

"Before the matches with Germany and Slovenia, the Russian FA expressed their desire for us to continue working together. But we'll talk about the future later."

Portugal, without the injured Cristiano Ronaldo, scraped through with a 2-0 aggregate win over Bosnia-Herzegovina thanks to Raul Meireles' goal in Zenica.

Dimitrios Salpingidis struck to hand 2004 European champions Greece their place in the finals with a 1-0 away win over Ukraine.

Algeria beat Egypt 1-0 to qualify 2-0 on aggregate while Uruguay went through despite a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica.

Please dont go, we trust you very much, you are really very good coach, and Russians are allways like this - we need to pass through great losses before we become very strong.
