Kerrea Gilbert intends to quit Arsenal in new year

Arsenal's Kerrea Gilbert is seeking a move to another Premier League club in January.

The 20-year-old turned down a move to a number of Championship clubs last summer as he looked to prolong his career with the Gunners.

It is now understood the defender is unlikely to be offered a new deal but he still sees his future in the top flight despite starting only two games for the club since 2006.

Meanwhile, Fran Merida was sent off last night as the reserves slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.

The Spaniard, who is yet to agree terms on an extension to his contract which runs out at the end of the season, appeared to aim a punch at Fabian Delph and was given his marching orders midway through the first half.

It proved to be the game's turning point as Sanchez Watt had put the hosts ahead prior to the incident.
