Missing out: Guus Hiddink won't coach at the World Cup

Guus Hiddink pours cold water on rumours of a quick Premier League return

7 Dec 2009

Guus Hiddink intends to see out his contract with Russia until June, ending speculation of a return to the Premier League this season.

With Russia failing to qualify for the World Cup, there has been talk of Hiddink taking a director's role at Chelsea, where he was interim boss last term.

There was also a story yesterday that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who holds huge influence with the Russian Football Federation, would block any attempts by Manchester City to lure the 63-year-old.

Although Hiddink will have talks with his Russian bosses after the election of a federation president in the new year he wants, at the least, to stay until his deal ends in June.

The Dutchman said: “I have plenty of time to think about the future and reach the correct decision regarding future work in Russia. I intend to see my contract through and only then sort out my plans.”

Hiddink also revealed he has rejected approaches from other teams to manage at the 2010 World Cup.

“I can say for sure that I haven't signed contracts with anybody, nor have I even held any talks, neither with clubs nor federations,” said Hiddink, who has been linked with Argentina and South Africa. “Many have wanted talks but I declined them all.”
