German's late cameo lifts cup gloom for Hart

Antonio German gave Paul Hart something to smile about as Queens Park Rangers were knocked out of the FA Cup 3-2 by Sheffield United.

The forward, 18, came on for the final 10 minutes of the replay and almost grabbed the equaliser but his fierce shot was blocked by Mark Bunn.

Boss Hart said: "I was very pleased with him. He's a lot closer to starting for the team than he was before kick-off."

Millwall also went out in the third round, losing 5-3 at Derby on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 following extra-time. Boss Kenny Jackett said: "The players did all I asked of them."

Parkinson must look for bargains in sales

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson must rely on the loan market to strengthen his squad ahead of a promotion push.

The Addicks boss met chairman Richard Murray and the board to set out his transfer plans only to be told there was no money available.

Parkinson, who is yet to spend any money since taking over from Alan Pardew in November 2008, will have to continue looking for free transfers or short-term loan deals.

Murray said: “The finances aren't there to pay money for players, so any activity we do see will be in the loan market.”

Bees sign new Terry'

Brentford have signed the new John Terry, according to his former team-mate who wrote himself into the club's record books last season.

Tommy Smith (right), 19, has joined on loan from Ipswich, where he came through the ranks with Jordan Rhodes, who became the youngest player to score a hat-trick for the Bees during a
four-month spell last year.

Rhodes, now at Huddersfield, said: “Tommy's an
old-fashioned centre-half. I'd liken him to John Terry. He would run through a brick wall for the team.”

Daggers' Miller blow

Adam Miller's wage demands have priced him out of a move to Dagenham.

The midfielder impressed during two months on loan but has returned to Gillingham.

Daggers boss John Still said: “Gillingham didn't want a fee but his wages there are much higher than what we have here. We just couldn't keep him.”

Leyton Orient have signed striker Jonathan Tehoue, who would have joined Huddersfield last term but for a contract dispute with his club.

The Frenchman, 25, had been playing with Kasimpasaspor in Turkey's top flight. Boss Geraint Williams said: “He's strong, has a good leap and a good strike on goal.”
