John Terry: Chelsea fans support has been 'incredible'
9 Feb 2010Embattled Chelsea captain John Terry has described the support he has received from the club's fans as "incredible".
Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by Fabio Capello as a result of his alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-girlfriend of former Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge.
The 29-year-old has refused to comment on the allegations but broke his silence to speak to the club's television channel.
Terry told Chelsea TV following the Blues' 2-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday: "On a personal note I would like to thank every single fan.
"It's been an emotional day for myself and how the fans have been with me over the last two weeks has been quite incredible.
"I didn't expect that and I would like to thank every single individual fan for the way they treated me.
"It was a great performance and, I mean it from my heart, I would like to thank everyone."
Terry led by example against the Gunners, his header from a corner setting up Drogba for the opening goal.
The centre-back, however, picked up a dead leg and will be assessed ahead of the trip to Everton tomorrow night, while it has also been speculated Terry will be given a leave of absence from next weekend's FA Cup tie against Cardiff to deal with off-field issues.

Opposition fans will always find any reason to dislike Terry. Why? Because he's very good at his job, and that frustrates them. He's tough and mean, but that's his job, he's a central defender and not meant to be 'nice'. I'm sure these same qualities will be admired by those same people, when Terry's playing for England in SA. We need them!

Chelski fans reflect their team captain. No class. When West Ham play in the Championship next year the gates will not be around 10,000.Like Chelsea,s were.

George, So it's an established FACT that Chelsea fans idolise anyone with money, eh?..Did you used to prepare dodgy dossiers in the Tony Blair government?...they were apparantly good at establishing so called "facts" too..! Must dig out those icons of Roman and JT that I've stashed away somewhere....Doh!.

Paul.
Why, exactly, should I worry about ticket sales? Do you think I work in the ticket office at West Ham?
What a silly thing to say.
As for "classy", that really says it all about Chelsea and their nouveau crowd. If you think football fans should behave in a "classy" manner, you've clearly never been to an actual game.

Who cares what people think of JT. he may be a prat, and I don't care if he goes through the England WAGS like a dos of salts (probably has, as long as he does his job for Chelsea I don't care. i think Chelsea should sell him next season or the season afetr that, not because of his morals, that is not our call, or capellos either, but because he has a dodgy back and will be close to 31.

I couldn't give a hoot what poeple's opinions are on JT. I'm a Blues fan, he's been here since a teenager, and he's serves Chelsea very very very well. Wouldn't swap his captaincy with anyone else. He's a rock at the back, and an excellent leader on the pitch. What he does outside of football is of no interest to me whatsoever. Ther are more important things in life than sticking my nose in to other people's personal life. He is paid to play football. That is it. No less, no more. When he signed his Chelsea contract, I doubt there was a small print clause that stated "Thou shall not commit adultery".

Maybe you shuld worry about selling all your tickets for the Chelsea game on the 13th - tickets on general sale for a London derby bit small time isn't it
Did you boast about the incredible noise when you were chanting 'tumour boy' at Glen Roeder after his return from brain surgery - classy fans!

Where did I say Bobby Moore was whiter than white? I just said Terry wasn't fit enough to tie his bootlaces.
Face facts, John Terry is reviled at every ground outside of Stamford Bridge. It's not just club rivalry or banter. Our so called England captain's antics both on and off the pitch (well before his latest revelations) make him one of the least respected players in the modern game.

It is an established fact that Chelsea fans idolise anybody with money. Doubtful if he will receive rapturous applause in other parts of the country.

The difference between John Terry and other sportsman who were unfaithful is that John slept with his team mate's ex whilst the bed was still warm. Plus that woman had a child with his friend and feelings were obviously very raw. When Ferdinand,or Bobby Moore was unfaithful, it was some randoms...not the mothers of their team mate's children. As for Tiger Woods, Golf is not really a team sport with a 'locker room' culture so that does not matter.
What John Terry did would have split the team in two, with those who were appalled with what he did and those who were not. This is not the right setting for the start of a successful world cup campaign. With this and all the other lurid allegations about him, both past and present, I think he should be thrown of the team.

The Chelsea fans never cease to amaze. Here they are supporting not just a man with a wrap sheet as long as his England captaincy was short-lived, but a man who failed to declare any sort of loyalty to Chelsea when Man City came in for him until he had screwed every last penny out of the fans and topped his wage up to £170,000 per week!

What ARE you on about E Sullivan? You're about three weeks late for the Millwall chat.
Are you "ashamed" as a West Ham fan, or "ashamed" as an opposing fan? You make absolutely no sense.
As for all this "ooh, are you whiter than white??" from the rest of you, no, of course not, don't be so daft. I'm just enjoying the fact every time we play (and Peter, we still have a game to play THIS season, each team plays each other twice you know...yes, really!) one of your wonderfully "moral" players has done yet another thing we can cane them for.
Should be a fun, unashamed day out.

Dave Portugal, not all the rest of the supporters are against him.
Joe - excellent comment, that is something I have been saying too.
Roynaldo, you cannot be a true Hammers fan as you would know they have had their fair share of scandal, including Bobby Moore.
Stu - Beckton, I was at the Millwall match and was ashames of the WestHam supporters that night, please don't let us be ashamed of you all again.
I don't support Chelsea, but what JT did was outside of the game, and they have replaced him with a captain, who has committed the same crime (adultery) and numerous other wrongs, so where is the logic? Also Ferdinand had a shot at captain before and was ineffectual.

This is the same man who peeed in a pint glass while standing in a public bar. Does anyone think he is fit to captain England. Maybe he is fit to captain chelsea, but not England.
His private life is not his own to play with, with his profile. But Terry thought, and probably still thinks he's invincable. I don't. Everytime I see him I'm reminded of a thick oaf weeing in a glass and thinking it's cool.

Parking in disabled spaces???????????? Is that it? Is that why you hate him? It must be, because every footballer on God's earth argues with referees - although I'm sure, had he still been England captain, he would have been a hero if his "snarling" had caused a ref to reverse a penalty decision in the World Cup.
You and all your kind repulse me with your hypocrisy - yes, cheating on his wife was appaling, but that's his business not yours. Oh, by the way, I think you might find old Bobby's laces were quite often undone while he indulged himself in a bit of forbidden fruit.

Can't wait for that West Ham 'support' next year all the way from the Championship......and Rob, what's any man's personal life got to do with you? Since when did you become moral judge and jury? I support JT my team's captain when he plays for my team. what he does elsewhere is a matter of contract between him and the club or it's personal and none of our business. Too many in this country think they have a right to pass moral judgements - well, it ain't so.

Barry Welwyn. You are right, it is who is and not so much what he's done.
Whether it's snarling in referees faces with every decision that goes against him. Or parking in disabled parking spots. The man is grade A without an ounce of class.
He is not fit to tie Bobby Moore's boot laces.
End of.

Will that be the "moral outrage" of the whiter than white Hammers fans that he will face?
Let's get real here - it's not what he did, it's who he is that gets your goat isn't it?
