On the move: Ricardo Carvalho will link up with Jose Mourinho again

Ricardo Carvalho set for Real Madrid switch

11 Aug 2010

Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho will join Real Madrid after both teams announced last night a deal has been agreed.

The Blues confirmed they have agreed terms for the sale of the Portugal international, while Madrid revealed Carvalho will join on a two-year deal.

A Chelsea statement read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

"The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

"Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

Carvalho joins up with former boss Jose Mourinho, with whom he worked so successfully at both Porto and Chelsea.

The 32-year-old centre-half heads to the Spanish capital - reportedly for a fee of around 8million euros - on the back of a hugely impressive World Cup showing in which Portugal conceded just one goal.

A Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid CF and FC Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

"The player will be linked to Real Madrid CF the next two seasons."

Thanks Ricky - in recent seasons not as good but over his time with the club has now put himself up with some of the best Chelsea center backs of recent years - Desailly - Lebeouf - Terry. Think Real will be a great home for him as whenever he plays with a team under Mourinho he truly was one of the best in the world.
