John Terry and Frank Lampard in line to face West Ham

7 Sep 2010

John Terry and Frank Lampard could both be fit for this weekend's all-London clash with struggling West Ham.

Both the Chelsea captain and vice-captain have been ruled out of England's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland through injury.

But coach Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that both players could be fit enough to play against the Hammers.

Terry is struggling with a hamstring problem while Lampard has undergone surgery on a groin injury.

"Lampard had surgery and I think that he will start to train this week," said Ancelotti.

"I don't know when but we will see how he trains and we will take a decision for the game against West Ham.

"Terry didn't have surgery but he used the last week to improve his hamstring. He will start to train with the squad this week and I think he will be able to play against West Ham."

Moral turpitude is defined as "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty, or good morals" Given that we are talking about Fat ("dump the wife and kids")Frank and John ("don't leave my dog or any other barnyard animals alone with him") Terry, I think we can all agree that moral turpitude is the defining characteristic of both of them.

What do the players earn for England matches? Are they paid by the game? If they can see their hapless boss pocketing 125 grand a week, 52 weeks a year, does this affect them? Forget national pride, that's as bogus as the old twin towers. The past is a different country. Going forward, how can these young millionaires be motivated?

Ahem. Kerry from Purley.

First of all, you say no one complains when other managers pull their players out of international games. Sorry but that's not true. I find it disgusting how Ferguson has gotten away with it over the years and disgraceful how Gerrard is never, ever available for friendlies - the same as I abhor John Toshack's continual calling-up-and-immediately-injuring every Welsh Hammer for the last few years. No one is targeting only Chelsea players because of this.

Second, and this really is confusing me, bearing in mind the article concerns John Terry and Fat Frank Lampard, perhaps you could define what you think "moral turpitude" means for me, as I'm obviously under the impression it means something completely different from you.

Kerry,

I think you've completely missed the point. I can understand why players might prefer to play for their club rather than in internationals, but why patronise England fans by proclaiming their love for their country and their pride in wearing the shirt?

Also are you claiming that Lampard and Terry are without "moral turpitude"?

As for your suggestion that other managers aren't criticised for withdrawing players from internationals, that's just silly.

Lampard is one of the fittest players playing today.Would be different if the ref allowed the equalizer against Germany. " Hero Frank" " Frank beats the Frankfurters"......is it really that important?

Oh Gawd, here we go again.
when SAF/AW/appy arry and co withdraw their blokes from an international (e.g i don't think Ryan Giggs ever played a friendly International), no one complains.
personally, I'm glad they are not playing for engerlund, with the bullies, drug cheats and those with moral turpitude. Chelsea is my country, and I want them fit to play WHU. I do not understand people who claim England over their club teams, they must be from the lower leagues where they don't have Internationals, unless they are moldovian, andorran etc.

Well, if we win tonight then I think it's probably fair to say that we can give them a nice two week holiday every international break because we plainly won't need their services any more.

Frankly, after their appalling performances at the World Cup I'm amazed that they're still in contention for a call-up at all.

Overrated, over-the-hill and injury prone.

We should take this opportunity to shed this dead wood and let players who actually care about representing their country get the chance instead.

Yeah right Martin what a useless player that Lampard is !
Only 120 goals from midfield in the last 6 years some of them match winning goals in big games and finals.

And of course it was his fault that a shot that was over a yard over the line against Germany in the world cup was not given by the Ref and his officials.
I hope he never plays for England again so he can add to Chelsea's total of 3 titles in the last 6 years.

Rob/Steve - 100% spot on. Missing friendlies is one thing, but when club takes priority over country for a qualifier there's something wrong. It sows the seed in players' minds that international football just isn't that important. Is it any wonder we constantly fail at the big tournaments?

From a partisan point of view I'm glad they're back this weekend. Giving them a traditional Upton Park welcome will help pass the time while they're banging in 4 or 5.

Predictably missed the England games & back for Chelsea, whilst my club, Arsenal, are silly enough to allow their players to play for their national teams, often returning injured or fatigued.

Please please dont bring back the useless Lampard. England always play better without him as was seen in last game against Bulgaria

I'm sure this will come as a surprise to absolutely no-one whatsoever.

Why do England players continuously tell us how much pride they take in wearing the shirt, and then use competitive internationals as a chance to have a break and "improve his hamstring"?
