Will Janko escape to Britney's circus?

Janko Tipsarevic has always been something of an eccentric but it may surprise one or two of his fellow professionals to learn he is currently hooked on Britney Spears. The Serbian, who lost to Andy Murray at this year's French Open, was overheard probing one of his team over Britney's latest Tour dates — aptly named Circus', given he would make a fine ringleader. Unfortunately for Janko, Britney's tour left these shores last week to head for Paris so don't be surprised if he isn't too disappointed should he lose his second-round match tomorrow.

Rain won't be a drain on bookies' coffers

Worst bet of the Wimbledon fortnight has to be the stingy 2-1 advertised by the BBC's resident bookie Gary Wiltshire about the event passing off without a drop of rain. The outrageous price sparked an on-air spat with presenter Rishi Persad who pointed out, as dark clouds swirled over the All England Club yesterday and forecasters predicted thunder storms for later in the week, that “it should be nearer 200-1”. Meanwhile, bookies face liabilities in excess of £3m should Andy Murray win the men's singles.

Organisers hush up De Brito's barking

It appears the All England Club are attempting to gloss over the controversy surrounding Portuguese grunting sensation Michelle Larcher De Brito. The 16-year-old caused a something of a stir in her first ever grand slam appearance as third round opponent Aravane Rezai called the tournament referee to complain about the noise. Perhaps in a bid to keep us hacks at bay, De Brito's match against Klara Zakopalova was scheduled on Court 17 — where there are no sound speakers to relate the offending sounds to the press room.

Walliams back at the Centre of attention

The little England ambiance of SW19 is clearly to the taste of Little Britain star David Walliams. The comedian, who is better known for his long-distance swimming exploits than any interest in tennis, was spotted among the Centre Court crowd enjoying Roger Federer's facile victory over Yen-Hsun Lu yesterday. Walliams was then treated to his near-namesake Serena Williams seeing off Neuza Silva in the first round of the tournament he must have termed the laydees' singles.
