Olley's volleys - James Olley at Wimbledon

Evening Standard   26 Jun 2009

Laura's got a bee in her bonnet

Laura Robson had no fear against Daniela Hantuchova on her main draw debut, but she displayed less courage when confronted with a different kind of opponent at the Aorangi practice courts.

With a bee buzzing in her direction ahead of a warm-up session, the confident 15-year-old became a frightened teenager as she took evasive action until the danger passed. "I'm petrified of bees," she said.

Olympic inspectors give SW19 thumbs up

International Olympic Committee members have been at Wimbledon this week, checking on the venue for the 2012 Games.

By all accounts, they were hugely impressed with the organisation of the tournament, while even the transport links worked well.

The glorious weather also helped the mood, leaving London Olympics chief executive Paul Deighton delighted with the timing of the visit.

He joked: "There's a reason why it is not raining this week - because we invested millions putting a roof on Wimbledon!"
