Laura Robson was today set to begin the defence of her Wimbledon girls' title and insisted a debut defeat in the senior women's singles has not dented her confidence.

The 15-year-old lost in three sets to world No32 Daniela Hantuchova, of Slovakia, on the first day of Wimbledon.

But ahead of her junior championship opener against Katarena Paliivets, of Canada, she said: "I was pleased with myself and the way the whole match went.

"I was a set and a break up against someone who was one place out of being seeded. It was just disappointing that I couldn't close out the match in the end.

"But I could have won and that is a good sign for the future.

"Nick Bollettieri came up to me after the match and said I was going to have a great future, so I have all these positive vibes coming at me."

Despite the disappointment of Britain's showing in the senior singles competitions - Andy Murray excepted - a home pair are still going in the men's doubles.

Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray will be up against it later today, however, when they play No2 seeds Daniel Nestor, of Canada, and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic.
