Tommy Haas continued his progress at Wimbledon when he beat Igor Andreev in straight sets.

Haas, the 24th seed from Germany, exploited a consistent serve to reach his first quarter-final in 11 attempts at the All England Club with a 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Andreev, the 29th seed from Russia.

The 31-year-old German was then left waiting for the outcome of Novak Djokovic's clash with Dudi Sela of Israel, knowing that his victory over the Serbian fourth seed earlier this month at in the final at Halle would give him a crucial psychological edge.

It was Haas's first ATP Tour title in two seasons, and it offered the hint that he might be getting better with age - he is the oldest player through to the round of 16 at the All England Club.

Haas said: "Age is just a number in many ways. I know I am 31, but maybe I have a little bit more miles in my legs than some other players who are younger than me.

"Once you're out there on the court, I think you leave all that behind, anyway. You just want to compete and win."
