Laura Robson has tried to deflect pressure from her defence of the Wimbledon girl's singles title by insisting she is not a marked target.

Robson, the No2 seed, got her campaign off to a promising start with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Canada's Katarena Paliivets and will meet Sally Peers of Australia in the second round.

But even though she made an impressive, if losing, debut in the seniors against former world No5 Daniela Hantuchova, Robson claims she is just one of the crowd among the juniors.

She said: “I'm not the No1 seed and I've lost to a couple of the girls in the draw. Do I feel a weight of expectation? Nope, simple answer.”

Proving there is fight amongst Britain's potential stars of the future, Dave Thomson, Richard Gabb, Tom Farquharson and Alexandra Walker all fought back from a set down to seal spots in the second round.

In the senior men's doubles, Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray lost to Daniel Nestor of Canada and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
