Fans prepare for Murray battle

Andy Murray's army of fans converged on Wimbledon today as he continued his quest for glory in SW19.

Many had been queuing for two days to secure their place on centre court for his quarter-final against Juan Carlos Ferrero today.

A few were worried that the hangover from his epic five-set victory on Monday might affect his chances.

But most were confident he would win and make it to his first ever Wimbledon semi-final.

Friends Alice Bell and Natalie Payne decided to dress up as North American Indians as they camped out since yesterday morning in the hope of seeing the British number one.

Alice, 17, a student from Winchester said: "We got centre court tickets. I can't believe it. It's our first ever Wimbledon so we thought we would just go crazy".

Natalie, 17, said: "We work in the same pub and we've been saving our tips all year so we could afford to watch Murray today and it's paid off, I really think he's going to win the whole thing".

Students Stacey Dobbs, Nadia Smith and Claire Fryer queued up just to get ground passes so they could secure their place on "Murray mound". Stacey, 22, of Camden said: "We just want to get on the hill before it gets too packed because we don't want to miss a moment. Come on Andy".

Claire, 25, of Fulham said: "I was working in a bar until 1am so I've had almost no sleep whatsoever but it'll all be worth it just to soak up the atmosphere. This is what it's all about".

The BBC were hoping for a similar audiance to Monday night's marathon match which saw viewing figures top at 12.6 million - a record for a midweek Wimbledon match.
