Pete Sampras is considering an emotional return to Wimbledon to support close friend Roger Federer.

The American has not been back to SW19 since 2002 but is pondering a 12-hour flight to London for Sunday's men's singles final - a match which could see Federer set the record for the most grand slam titles.

At the moment, the Swiss star shares the milestone with Sampras, who won half of his 14 major crowns at Wimbledon.

There has been no formal invitation from the All England Club but Sampras said: "I've been going back and forth over the idea even though having two kids on a 12-hour flight to London isn't my idea of fun.

"It's a long trip but it's a great place. Roger's a friend and it would be great to be there. Wimbledon is an event I grew up watching at six in the morning. Nothing competes with Wimbledon. I miss Centre Court."
