Fighting fit: John Terry returned to training today after his injury scare

John Terry returns to training and vows: I'll be 100 per cent for FA Cup Final

John Terry insists he is ready to lead Chelsea in the FA Cup Final against Portsmouth after returning to training this morning less than 24 hours after his broken metatarsal scare.

Terry hurt his right foot in training yesterday but scans showed there was no break and he was back in action at Cobham today.

The England international said he would be "100 per cent fit" for Wembley on Saturday and added: "I'm fine and looking forward to the game."

The 29-year-old defender revealed he picked up the injury in a training ground collision with striker Daniel Sturridge.

He explained: “I was just running back to goal and Daniel Sturridge fell on top of me. My foot was caught underneath. I thought it was quite bad initially.

“But once I had the scan, it was just bruising and today there was no problem at all.

“I was delighted when I got the scan results and there was no ligament damage or anything like that. It was just a bit of bruising inside the foot so no problem at all.

“I felt good today, I felt nothing at all, passing the ball or striking the ball. I came straight here to see the doctor and he sent me for a scan straight away. He couldn't tell what it was, it was always going to be a quick scan, nothing serious.”

Terry's reapparance on the training pitch is a big boost for Fabio Capello, who named his provisional 30-man England squad for the World Cup on Tuesday. For of the five centre-halves in that group neither Rio Ferdinand nor Ledley King have been able to play a full season because of injury concerns.

Terry admitted he was concerned the problem could have affected his participation in this summer's finals in South Africa.

The former captain continued: “It was sorted out in a couple of hours but I was a bit scared, I must say.

“Once I had the scan I didn't wear the boot, it's just protection really. The doctor advised me to keep it on. But once I got the scan results I was back in my normal trainer.”

Sounds strange to me. Cover up I would say. Why should the Doctor send you for a scan if there was nothing wrong. I would say he is carrying an injury, but is covering it up from the England set-up.
