Wembley Stadium threatened with prosecution

05.10.07

Fans at the new Wembley Stadium are causing too much noise, according to local residents.

Not those in the stands - but the extractor fans that expel air from the restaurants in the new complex.

Residents say the 500 fans sound like jet engines. Sydney Davies, 53, said: "When they were first turned on we could not get any sleep - they were on day and night, day after day.

"Recently they agreed only to use them on event days but now they are on almost every day again because of functions."

A petition signed by more than 75 residents was delivered to Brent council, which is taking action against the owners.

Chris Walker, the council's director of planning, said it had issued a notice that Wembley had breached its planning conditions, and failure to comply with this could result in prosecution.

A Wembley Stadium spokesman said: "We are in regular contact with residents and are managing our activities to minimise any impact while the situation is rectified. "Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year."
