Prices of Heathrow tickets set to jump

Evening Standard
21.11.07

The price of tickets from Heathrow is set to jump by up to £10 because of rising landing charges.

The Civil Aviation Authority has given the go-ahead for inflation-busting increases in landing fees to fund upgrading the airport.

They could rise from £9.28 a ticket now to between £18 and £20 by 2012/13.

The increase was attacked by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic airline.

A spokesman said: "It is totally unacceptable."

Dr Harry Bush, of the CAA, said: "Passengers and airlines deserve better than they have been provided with at Heathrow and Gatwick in recent years, but need to recognise that improvements have to be paid for."

At Gatwick, charges are set to rise by 8.2 per cent in 2008/09, putting £6.07 on a ticket, followed by annual increases of no more than two per cent above inflation.
