Evening Standard Influentials debate: How can London stay ahead as the great world city?

13.02.08

Monday 25 February
RSA
8 John Adam Street, London, WC2N 6EZ.
Doors open at 6.30pm, Debate 7pm - 8.30pm

In the past few years London's economic and cultural renaissance has helped it lay claim to the title of the world's number one city. Now in the run up to the mayoral contest, we ask what the capital needs to stay ahead in the competitive race with other world cities.

With a panel featuring Ken Livingstone, the Labour candidate seeking a third term as mayor, the debate will discuss how London can prosper in a globalised era – and what it still needs to do to enhance its appeal for those who live and work here.

Debating this motion will be: Ken Livingstone Mayor of London, Diane Abbott Labour MP for Hackey North and Stoke Newington, Lionel Barber Editor of The Financial Times, Nick Ferrari LBC Radio Broadcaster. In the chair is Jonathan Freedland, columnist.

It's official - Boris Johnson is getting £250,000 a year from The Daily Telegraph for his weekly column, but will donate more than a tenth of that to a body encouraging the teaching of Latin, Greek and ancient history in state schools
