Sickening blow: Birmingham's Martin Taylor breaks Eduardo's leg

Flamini: We will win the title for Eduardo

Evening Standard   25 Feb 2008

Mathieu Flamini has warned Arsenal's title rivals that Eduardo's career-threatening leg break will only strengthen the side's resolve to win the Premier League.

The striker's double compound fracture of the left leg came in the 2-2 draw at Birmingham, a result which allowed Manchester United to cut Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League to three points.

But Flamini insists the character Arsenal showed after the devastating injury to the Croatia international will drive them on for the rest of the title race.

"Yes, of course we want to win it for Eduardo," said the midfielder. "We wanted to win it before, but now we want to win it also for him because we have lost him to such a terrible injury.

"He is not going to be with us for a long time, so of course we want to win it for him. People will say we are having a bad time, but we are still three points clear at the top.

"I went to see him and it was really bad. I have no words to describe what I saw. Yes, it was maybe the worst injury I have ever seen."

Eduardo had surgery on Saturday night and was visited by Birmingham defender Martin Taylor. The striker, 25 today, has absolved Taylor of any blame for the break that will keep him out of Euro 2008. He said: "I'm determined to overcome this injury."

As a Man.U. fan I was delighted to see The Gunners drop the points but have to say you were robbed. Very saddened about Eduardo. Believe it or not I think he has been a delight to watch this season and wish him all the best and a Quick and Full Recovery.
