Man visiting his mother is stabbed to death by gang

A young father was stabbed to death by a gang of three men as he visited his family home last night.

The 24-year-old victim, known locally as "Judah", was attacked on Babot estate in Edmonton at about 9pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene half an hour later.

The murder came hours after mayoral candidate Boris Johnson gave a speech in Edmonton describing the killings last year of 27 teenagers in London as "a symptom of something badly wrong in our society".

The father-of-one is the latest victim of violence in Edmonton. Four teenagers have been killed in the area this year.

Neighbours said three black men ran away from the scene last night. One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "He had a twoyearold son and lived with his girlfriend. He'd only come to visit his mum. His mum's a lovely church-going lady."

Residents said crime on the estate, which was built in 2004, had been steadily increasing.

Another neighbour said: "I only spoke to Judah last week. He said his parents were visiting relatives in Africa and he was worried about their safety because of the problems going on over there.

"He had two sisters and a brother. He used to live with them but moved out when he had his own kid. He used to sit on the wall opposite my house. I never had any problems with him. He'd always say hello - but I don't know if he worked and I can't say if he was mixed up in anything."
