Last sight of missing TV presenter

Justin Davenport, Evening Standard
9 Apr 2008

This is the latest CCTV image of missing children's TV presenter Mark Speight, who has vanished amid fears for his well being.

He was caught on camera passing through Queen's Park railway and Underground station on Monday afternoon, the day he went missing. Moments earlier he had withdrawn cash from a nearby bank machine in Salisbury Road.

Speight's family have appealed to him to get in touch, saying he was in a vulnerable state after the death of his fiancée, TV presenter Natasha Collins.

Speight, 42, went missing six days after the inquest into Natasha's death in January. He had found his fiancée, 31, with scalding burns in the bath of the London flat they shared after both took cocaine and sleeping tablets.

Initially arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs, he was told he would not face charges.

Detective Inspector Declan Williams said today that numerous people had phoned in with sightings. Speight had caught a southbound Bakerloo line train at Queen's Park, possibly to Paddington station.

Police were widening their search to Dorset and other areas that he and Natasha had visited together. They had also not ruled out the possibility that he is in west London. They were examining CCTV footage at stations to try to piece together his travels.

Speight was reported missing at 1.30am yesterday after he failed to meet Carmen Collins, Natasha's mother, for coffee in Covent Garden at 3pm the day before.

He had been dropped off at Wood Green station at 9.30am on Monday and was seen in Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Rise, by two police officers who were concerned for his welfare and asked if he was OK. He replied: "I need to leave," before vanishing.

Anyone with information should call Enfield police station on 020 8807 1212.
