Met officers in New York run to help colleagues' sick son

Evening Standard

A team of Met officers are travelling to America in the hope of raising money to help save a six-year-old with a rare form of cancer.

They will run 30 miles around New York's Central Park to raise funds for Jack Brown, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age two. Jack, whose parents are both detective sergeants in Barnet, is being treated at a specialist centre in Vermont.

In September, 16 officers from Romford raised £75,000 by cycling more than 200 miles from New York to Rhode Island dressed in uniform.

Now another team of officers are going to the US and hope to raise £30,000 with the run on 3 and 4 May.

The money will go towards the £300,000 needed to fund a full-time scientist who can study neuroblastoma in Britain and be an advocate to try to bring medication available in the US to Britain.

Officers taking part are from the diplomatic protection team, northeast traffic division, Newham, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Romford and Tower Hamlets, as well as Essex and British Transport Police.
