Pastors take to the streets to fight gang crime

07.05.08

A team of street pastors is taking to the streets in a bid to reach out to disaffected teenagers and reduce gang crime.

Ministers and church members will visit clubs and pubs to try to persuade the young people to discuss their problems with them.

Edward Lister, leader of Wandsworth council, which is helping fund the project, said: "It's only by working together as a community to draw people in that we can begin to challenge that sense of alienation which is the pretext for so much of the anti-social behaviour we see."
