Tyre-annosaurus rex has a scary message about extinction

Artists have created a world of animals made only of rubbish to highlight the damage being done to the planet.

The Recycled Sculpture Show includes a horse made of driftwood, a shark fashioned from discarded hubcaps, a plastic-bag polar bear cub and a dinosaur made of old tyres.

The 21 works, on display at London Zoo from today, were created by artists including Heather Jansch and Emma Fenelon.

Sophie Townsend, sustainability manager at the Zoological Society of London, said: "The sculptures really provoke debate about human waste and its effect on the natural world.

"There is no better setting than surrounded by some of the most endangered creatures on earth. Many are close to extinction because of man's insatiable lust for resources."

The show marks the start of the three-week Love London, Love Your Planet festival of eco-events.

Festival director Christopher Harris said: "This is a fantastic example of how rubbish can be used creatively: nothing really needs to be wasted."
