Roger Waters and Patti Smith will perform with their sons in an evening of entertainment in aid of Human Rights Watch.

The Pink Floyd founder and the veteran punk star will play some of their best known songs at Cries From The Heart: Tyranny at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Sunday.

The show aims to raise funds for, and awareness of, people living in dictatorships such as Burma.

Smith will perform with son Jackson on guitar and Waters will duet on the piano with son Harry.

Also taking part in the evening of words and music are Julie Christie, Joanna Lumley, Sir Ian McKellen, George Alagiah and Antony Sher.

They will read works by Ariel Dorfman, David Hare, Colm Tóibín and Derek Walcott. Desmond Tutu has recorded a message of support that will be screened at the evening.

Sher, a co-patron of Human Rights Watch, said: "As artists, I believe it is crucial we speak up for human rights. Along with all the other artists taking part, I am proud to be able to make a contribution to raising awareness of the most important global issue of our time."

Laura Boardman, development director of Human Rights Watch UK, said: "Artists are increasingly bringing a new perspective to the global debate about human rights. We are hugely encouraged by their support. We are especially grateful to Roger Waters and Patti Smith."

Tickets, costing from £20, are on sale by calling 0845 4811870.
