Fourth person held over French students' death

Benedict Moore-Bridger, Evening Standard
11 Jul 2008

A fourth person has been arrested over the murders of two French students.

David Sonnex, 23, was held after his brother and a woman handed themselves in to police. He was being questioned today over the murders of biochemistry students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, whose bodies were found at a flat in New Cross on 29 June.

Nigel Farmer, 33, who gave himself up on Monday, was remanded in custody yesterday after being charged with the murders.

Lets have a referendum on Capital punishment now.

We've had the death penalty before in this country and to my knowledge we didn't have the knife / gun culture or violent crime statistics that we're suffering today.

3 words - deterent, deterent, deterent.

The do gooders have had their way for far too long and it hasn't worked. Let's try something else.

I agree with you John - this has been an awful couple of weeks for our community. Knowing that people so decrepit and full of hate are living amongst us, and have probably walked past us in the street, and target innocent people who chose to live in our neighbourhood while they were guests in this country. A lot has been said about what a terrible area it is, and how people should not go there. I have never felt overly unsafe here (no more so than in other parts of the city), because I've always felt a sense of community here and the quirky familiar faces that you see everyday in New Cross add to the sense of pride for the area. These crimes have left me reeling, now I have been looking with sadness at the streets and the people - I feel so sorry for the two men and their families.

If ever there were a reason for capital punishment - this crime is it. Heads up, Britain: you need only two words to stop this sudden rash of knife crime deaths and other forms of urban terrorism: DEATH PENALTY. You're forever putting heinous criminals behind bars 'for life' and then letting them out a few years later 'cuz your gaols are 'overcrowded'. Tourism to GB will drop to a mere trickle if this sort of crime continues. Wake up.

This is a terrible crime and for what? Playstations and/or pin numbers. Who knows? Let's hope these people get what they deserve and that's life imprisonment without hope of release.

Come on John May. Let's stick by the principle of "innocent until proved guilty". Some people have been arrested; they have not even yet been charged. Much too early to make comments like yours.

Disgusting crime, apparently carried out by disgusting people(sonnex?, wasn't the sister also arrested for glassing a girl in the wallpole pub about three years ago?) these people are bad & live on our streets. Their is no need for un-nessesory violence, for what? A name? Well I'm sure we can all give you one, but I'm not sure you'd like it. For money? There are easier ways to get it, try working.
Don't give these people shelter, they will probably be more bothered now that someone "grassed them up" than they will with these awful crimes.
They have tainted the name of our area, where talented & beautiful people live & work it affects all of us who live here. The majority of sane people who do, treat overseas visitors with the same respect that they find when visiting overseas. The ones that don't have a very confused idea of what respect is.
