11.07.08

Boris Johnson today launched the London Mela festival, dubbed the "Asian Glastonbury", at a curry house in Southall.

The Mayor met dancer Rebecca Coates of Nukhut and shared a meal with local businessmen.

The event was the start of a onemonth countdown to the free arts festival on Sunday 10 August in Gunnersbury Park which brings together circus, outdoor theatre, visual arts and live music. A record number of people are expected to attend and main-stage highlights will include performances by Taz from Stereo Nation, bhangra star Jassi Sidhu and Bollywood singer Labh Janjua.
