Arrested: Clarence James regularly made friends with British tourists

Honeymoon suspect with no alibi

This is the suspect being questioned over the killing of honeymoon couple Ben and Catherine Mullany.

Alleged drug dealer Clarence James cannot provide an alibi for the time of the shooting in Antigua on 27 July, police say.

Officers say he regularly befriended British tourists and appeared in many of their holiday photographs.

James, who is in his thirties and calls himself "Cloud" in a reference to cannabis smoking, was held soon after the shooting but was released. He was arrested again at the weekend.

Mr Mullany, 31, a trainee physiotherapist-was shot in the head during the bungled 5am robbery and was flown back to Britain but died yesterday after his life-support machine was switched off.

Mrs Mullany, also 31, died at the hotel cottage where the shooting took place. Five Scotland Yard detectives visited the murder scene on Saturday.

They flew to the island to help investigate after a plea for help from Antigua's overwhelmed police force.

Antigua's police commissioner, Gary Nelson, said the shooting may be linked to another murder on the island less than two months ago.

A police source said investigators believed they were hunting for more than one suspect.

Prayers were said for the couple at the church in Cilybebyll, Wales, where they were married just three weeks ago, and at churches throughout the Swansea valley.
