Rush hour traffic ground to a halt on one of Britain's busiest roads after a protester climbed on to a gantry.
Holidaymakers heading to Heathrow Airport were among those caught up in long tailbacks after four lanes of the M25 were closed.
The affected section is on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 15 - the M4 turn-off - and junction 14, for Heathrow.
The Highways Agency said traffic jams were stretching back to junction 16.
The man, who is dressed as Batman, is thought to be linked to the protest group Fathers 4 Justice.

The police and the courts want to make a mockery of fathers. Leave the M25 open and let drivers toot their horns in support of fathers.

There was no need to close the motorway. Once again, the usual over-reaction by our increasing stupid police.
By the way, do your readers know that social services can steal your kids, put them up for adoption and the family courts will deny you any justice or legal redress?
Oh, and they will also take away your right to protest?
It happens a lot. Now you know why fathers protest.
