Maddy apartment in Portugal goes on sale

The holiday flat in Portugal where Madeleine McCann went missing last year is up for sale for £250,000.

The British owner has put the property on the market with a local estate agent, according to a Portuguese newspaper.

Potential buyers could begin viewing the property from next week. A source at the estate agents said: "We should have the key by the end of this week. The owner is asking for 300,000 euros."

Madeleine was almost four when she disappeared from the apartment in Praia da Luz in May last year.

Retired teacher Mrs Ruth McCann, who owns flat 5A at the Ocean Club holiday complex, is no relation to Madeleine's family.

The newspaper, 24 Horas, said the price for the 20-year-old property, 500 yards from the beach, is "substantially higher" than other similar flats. But the agent said the high price was because it was aimed primarily at British buyers.

Madeleine vanished from the flat as her parents Gerry and Kate McCann, both doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, dined at a nearby tapas bar.

Ocean Country estate agents are selling the next door apartment, 5B, where the McCanns' friends Matthew Oldfield and his wife Rachael were staying at the time.

Number 5A was used by holiday-makers for nearly two months after Madeleine disappeared before police sealed it off as a crime scene.

It was crucial to the police investigation with forensic teams dusting the shutters and specialists taking DNA samples from furniture.

In this tragic flat the cadaver dogs found dead body odour, blood was found which is believed to be Madeleine's, and Kate's fingerprints were found on the window that was supposed to have been opened by the 'abductor'. I wonder who would like to buy this flat.
