Turmoil: Yasmin Rehman, a director of diversity at the Yard, claims she has been subjected to racist bullying

Met is facing race bias claim by its top Asian woman

Amar Singh, Evening Standard
10.09.08

The most senior Muslim woman in the Met police is set to lodge a claim of race discrimination against her employers.

Yasmin Rehman, a director of diversity with the force, intends to file a claim with a London employment tribunal within days claiming she has been subjected to racist bullying and victimisation.

It is another blow to Scotland Yard, which has been rocked by a race row involving Commissioner Sir Ian Blair and his third in command Tarique Ghaffur.

Ms Rehman's post of Director of Partnerships and Diversity for Territorial Policing puts her at the equivalent level to a chief superintendent in terms of civilian staff at the Met.

She has sought advice from the Metropolitan Black Police Association, the same organisation which is backing Mr Ghaffur in his multi-million-pound claim.

A friend said: "Yasmin has been one of Scotland Yard's shining stars on working with ethnic minority communities and tackling-vital issues like forced marriages and honour killings.

"She has worked very passionately on helping the police get to grips with these types of crimes.

"But she has been off sick for a year with stress-related problems and feels she has been targeted because she is Asian. Her thinking is, 'I've worked too hard to let them force me out'. "

Ms Rehman is employed by the Met at the "Band A" level, earning more than £60,000 a year. She was promoted to her post two years ago, so Sir Ian would have been aware of her appointment. Her department is based in Westminster and comes under the Met's Territorial Policing branch, headed by Assistant Commissioner Tim Godwin.

The focus of her role has been improving the force's links with ethnic communities rather than ensuring the police employ more ethnic minorities.

As one of the force's leading experts on community cohesion and domestic violence, she has spoken at conferences around the world.

A police source said: "Yasmin is very well thought of in the Met.

She is the last person you would think would end up in this situation. She is determined to bring her case against the Met. It's not a question of if this will happen, but when. That one of Scotland Yard's most successful female employees and, indeed, their head of diversity, is suing is a damning indictment on what is going on there."

A Met spokeswoman said they had not received notification that Ms Rehman was to bring a claim.

Yesterday Sir Ian "temporarily relieved" Assistant Commissioner Ghaffur of his duties. Mr Ghaffur, 53, is to be investigated by the Metropolitan Police Authority for possible misconduct for speaking publicly about his race claim against the Met.

Mr Ghaffur is taking the Met to an employment tribunal. His actions have prompted the biggest race row to hit the force since the Macpherson inquiry into the Stephen Lawrence investigation. Sir Ian said his comments were affecting the Met's "effectiveness".

As someone in the know, I would like to point out that Institutionalised racism is rife, not just in the Met but the entire Police Service... These high profile cases are very minor compared to others that the Police service covers up. The Macpherson report did nothing to rid the service of racism except, teach them that wish to express their ugly views to do so in a more covert manner.

Avon & Somerset Police are in the dock at the moment for serious bouts of race discrimination, I bet the details will never be made Public, so much for a transparent Police Service.

Some many people in these news forums complain about minority officers 'playing the race card' so to avoid any doubt, let me explain why...

Police Officers are not employee's they hold an office and as such are not afforded the same protection as workers under the employment rights Act of 1996. Discrimination is the only reason a Police officer can take his force to court.... Senior officers know this and thats why they think they are bullet proof. Discrimination is very hard to prove and why, because no body wants to admit that there is a problem in our Police Service because the penalties would be severe.

The Police federation in each force has sworn Police Officers at the healm and they amount to no more than a toothless tiger. Upset the force and that fed man could see himself back in uniform on shifts, all in the name of Operational requirements. Its all very corrupt.

- D. Smith, Bristol

It is amazing that top class department which is the backbone of the security the top officials are in face to face.

- M Amjad, London

She was promoted to her job 2 years ago and has been on sick leave for 1 year.

The first question this raises is what rules does the Metropolitan police have regarding "Trial service at a higher grade when someone gains promotion?"

If she cant deal with the pressure then it could be that she has been over promoted although given the description of what her duties encompass it might be better to abolish her post and use the £60,000 saved to fund more beat officers on the street.

The biggest losers of these high level cases are the decent policemen from ethnic minorities who's future promotion prospects could be put in danger as it appears O.k if you get the job but if you fail then its because of race or beliefs and not because someone else who might be a white, male and atheist is more suited to the job.

John, London

There is a White Police Staff Association. It's called the Freemason. Were you born yesterday?

KH, Middlesex

- Kitty Hung, Enfield, Middlesex

How can anyone get away with being off sick for a whole year?

The Met deserve what they get, if they put up with this nonsense.

- Neil Grinsell, london

dont think these concerns are in isolation. This is right the through all sectors of the criminal justice system. You only have to view the stats on the prison service and its Visible employees and the grades they hold. Try working for them! (not) This of course does not jusify the treatement of my black colleuagues, and it does not hearten me to know racism and discrimination within such systems which stands for equality is rife. The blood of Stephen Lawrence and Zahid Mubarek has meant nothing Im sad to say.

- Anthea, dudley

Jon, we do, they are called the Met...and there in trouble for it!

- Daveb, london

the whole country has become a worldwide laughing stock.
reading these comments the place sounds like its about to disappear up its own backside

- Ray Evans, gold coast, Australia

I am planning to sue my parents for not being of the correct race to get me an easy ride!

- Anon, the real world

Iftikhar Ahmad, you harp on with the really tired old cliche: "Muslim youths are angry, frustrated and extremist because they have been mis-educated and de-educated by the British schooling" etc. etc.

OK then, so how come all the other Asian youths who are Sikh, Hindu, and Christian etc. are not "angry, frustrated and extremist" etc. etc.?? How come all these people just quietly get on with living (and working!) in the UK and integrate. (and not 'biting the hand that feeds them')

And what about others -- Chinese, Philippino, Japanese, Italian, Hispanic, etc. etc. They do likewise -- i.e. just get on with contributing to life in the UK in a positive way.

- David, Leeds

Iftikhar Ahmad, LOndon United Kingdom.

You are welcome to leave if you think that you will get better elswhere.

- Jimbob, Kensington

Funny how people forget that not so long ago, the Met found that it was instituitionally racist, i wonder what that means?

And some of the comments here, are plain racism, funny also how the moderator, or so called moderator allows these comments to be published.

Soon as a Muslim person files a race complaint, we have all the skin heads come out of the wood work. And why, cause they sit in their home/office hiding behind their computer screens. The inner racist comes out.

- Hafizur Rahman, London, Stratford

If the schooling here is so crap, Iftikhar Ahmad, take your kids somewhere where a muslim education is more the norm. Try Afghanistan (though if they are girls of course they probably won't get any education...........)

- Paul, London

There is a lesson here, maybe future employers should think twice before thay chose asian candidates to fill there vacancys,or even religious believers. Its becomeing clear that both groups are not capable of doing the jobs thay are chosen for. From christian registrars,to muslims in the met.How many more millions of taxpayers money is going to be wasted on these religious discrimanation claims before we wake up.YOU ARE NOT EMPLOYED FOR YOUR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.Another point worthy of concideration ,,maybe this is a delibarate plot to destabalise the met by british muslims?i leave you to answer why thay might wont to do that?

- Kev, London

I wonder if the "bullying" had anything to do with her being asked when she's actually planning on getting back to work after being off for the last year. And naturally, as she's not caucasian it must be racism involved too. It always is, or so we are continually led to believe. With the best will in the world, those of us who find the nonsense of racism less than amusing, shall we say, are tiring of being labeled as racist because of the colour of our skin - does that sound familiar?

- Rogan, DFW TX

It is well documented that the met has serious racial issues for the two leading Asian officers to come forward and take a stand against this proves only one thing that the freemasons are still alive and doing well in the met.

- Richard Davis, East London

It's a well known fact that if you're white you needn't apply to the police as they openly discriminate against white applicants. It's obvious with Iftikhar mentioning that "muslims face discrimination" that he ignores what is reality for every person in every job everywhere. There is no such thing as a meritocracy - look at the public school senior characters in the tory party, regionals in the labour party, french at all levels of a french bank in London. The key thing that removes these issues is that people of any minority (white, male, muslim, gay, what have you)prove to employers or the surrounding population they are wrong for making this decision through their actions and not through the courts. This is either professionally, socially or economically. The last way to do this is by suing and hence incurring the utmost distaste of every hard working non-Muslim non-female. Whatever the truth of her case, the fact my hard earned wages are funding her situation galls me, regardless of her treatment. That's life, it's not fair, get on with. How utterly, utterly pathetic.

- Dj, london

As none-white Londoner whenever left a message on this site i could not ever see it published?? The English always publish what suits them not the truth even! No to hard to detect discrimination in all level of society.

- Victim, London

They`re all jumping on the gravy train!! And why not-they`ll probably get paid off.

- Michael J. Harman, San Diego, California

Is there some overall plot by Muslim police officers to try to discredit our police force? The move by this woman sounds very suspect indeed, especially coming hard on the heels of the Ghaffur case. Are to we expect a stream of similar "claims" by those followers of Islam who are in the British police?

- Michael Smith, United Kingdom

There is no smoke without fire; surely the complaints from staffs from the ethnic minority groups must have reasons. Surely the inner circles within the MPS system must now give way for progressions rather than discriminations. The world has changed and its about time some big heads understand the writing on the wall. Many black staffs are left to feel disvalued, where do we go from here. We now have two black senior staffs gone, how many more to go Sir Ian Blair. Are black really valued in the MPS? Don't think so.

- Ronny, London Uk

The met has proven they can do anything and justify it like killing of that poor Brazilian man and get away because most of the force is white, discriminating is just a small thing in the met compare with killing they have back up of politicians.

- Ma, London, London

Anyone else noticed that the comments made by muslim contributors villify the system and assume that racism occurred in this case simply on the basis of an accusation? This is becoming a common theme now. To accuse is enough. This is a disturbing trend. I have a message to people who see themselves as victims-assume equality. There, wasn't so hard was it?

- John, arezzo, italy

why cant we have a white police association

- John, london

Since when did Islam become a race and not a religion?!?!

I hope the idiot woman and the idiot government are reading this so they know exactly what the majority on the street think. The majortity that are paying her feigned 'year off'. Hardworking and passionate, my ****! If I took a year off and was sacked I would not be able to sue because I am white. Why should she be able to sue because she is Asian?

- Jc, London

TO: Kh, London UK

Membership of trade unions is not determined by race or colour - try again.

- Matthew, Grays, UK

What these race claims demonstrate is that positive discrimination is a very, very bad idea indeed. They should never have been promoted beyond their capabilities in the first place.

- Xyz, London

Muslim youths are angry, frustrated and extremist because they have been mis-educated and de-educated by the British schooling. Muslim children are confused because they are being educated in a wrong place at a wrong time in state schools with non-Muslim monolingual teachers. They face lots of problems of growing up in two distinctive cultural traditions and value systems, which may come into conflict over issues such as the role of women in the society, and adherence to religious and cultural traditions. The conflicting demands made by home and schools on behaviour, loyalties and obligations can be a source of psychological conflict and tension in Muslim youngsters. There are also the issues of racial prejudice and discrimination to deal with, in education and employment. They have been victim of racism and bullying in all walks of life. According to DCSF, 56% of Pakistanis and 54% of Bangladeshi children has been victims of bullies. The first wave of Muslim migrants were happy to send their children to state schools, thinking their children would get a much better education. Than little by little, the overt and covert discrimination in the system turned them off. There are fifteen areas where Muslim parents find themselves offend

- Iftikhar Ahmad, LOndon United Kingdom

A Muslim Asian man who wasn't even born in this country, but who came here as a refugee fleeing Idi Amin, becomes one of the top five policemen in this country during a fast-tracked. Clearly a victim of racism. But not the kind he is claiming. Would he have achieved anything like he has if his skin tone were Caucasian?

I wouldn't mind a bit of racial discrimination is it came with a year's paid holiday at £60,000!

Another spear in the side of democracy.

- Michael, London

As a black person who grew up in London during the late 60s and 70½s I saw a lot racism from police but as time went on police have become a lot more fairer in their view but the event and these claim this week has help to push back diversity amount police force by 5-10 years manly white police staff thinking what the point also want to add that as young person living in London I have only been affected by racism 3 time all involving India Asian dont forgot as group they don't believe in same sex relationship or inter-race marriages police force need to consider employing stuff who truly are diverse in their views

- Mike Jackson, london

Alec - 'the asians??What asians would this be? its a pretty big continent mate! I guess you've never experienced racism, being from an ethic minority yourself. being called names in the street is one thing, but if you have worked hard throughout your life to achieve the highest you can and if you can prove that your abilities are better than another candidate (as mine are to yours Alec!) but (the most subtle of) obsticles or blockers are put in your way, then its only right to stand up and say that its not right. The BNP will further themselves with the help of views such as yours.

Terry Tibbs (fonejacker?!) - Either trying to be clever in an attempt to spark a debate, or just a racist, uneducated degenerate. I'll go with the second.

- Mr Singh, London

If she as been off sick for a year she clearly isn't the person for the job. Yes it is laughable. You see it is apparently only white people who a racist and we all no that is a lie.

The problem with the UK is the Labour Government has left the door open for the whole time they have been in power and everyone now knows the UK is an easy target.

- Anon Uk, Bromley, UK

I agree with Roxanne - is it so difficult to beleive these officers were actually victims of racism? It seems not although i can honestly say some of these commentators contributions are distinctly racists. oh for all you questioning the existence of a black police federation: Black and Asian police officers are in the minority in their profession(fact) and are often marginalised while attenpting to carry out their duties,by both colleagues and the public, that is why the black officers have a federation. Female officers have their own orgainaisation as well - its like being part of a union. So instead of reactionary comments engage your brains for once and stop being so sensitive when discussing racisim- many commentators here (frank from the home counties) have no idea what is would be like to work in an orgainisation where one would feel marginalised.

- Kh, London UK

Something seriously wrong with the Met, in the same way as there was something seriously wrong with the Greater Manchester Police a few years ago. You might ask what the Police Authority has been doing all this time not to have picked up the signals a lot earlier on. A lot of the problems stem from institutional racism.

- Dhanraj, basildon, essex

So she was out a year with stress related problems, I wonder if my employer would go for that one or would I simply be fired? Her job was improving race relations, how on earth is she claiming racism in this position. Easy money and a one way street that needs to shut down.

- Brandon Thomas, London SW7

Years ago i applied about 7 times for a promotion at my former place of work without success. Its perverse that if I had been black or muslim i could almost certainly have claimed racial discrimination after the first couple of attempts and recieved a tidy sum in compensation. These people are a disgrace and should be booted out of the Met and their jobs given to people (whatever colour) who want to POLICE.

- Matthew, Grays, UK

Eileen O'Conor - You've fled your country so why are you concerned that "they" might take it over? Don't you think the Spanish worry that "you" Brits might take over Spain?

- Bill, London, UK

Been off for a year with "stress", yet paradoxically portrayed as so "hard-working".

- Luke, London

Race discrimination claim this month, sex discrimination claim next month.
When this woman and that Ghaffur bloke lose their claims they should both be sacked for bringing the Police into disrepute and then sued for frivolous court action.

- Steve, london

I agree entirely with what Phil Jones says. It should also be irrelevant whether this woman is a Muslim, a Christian or a follower of the Green Spaghetti Monster. Our current policies are providing grist to the mill for those who want to divide us up into sects. More faith schools will just fan the flames. It is depressing to think that the Tories will simply perpetuate this policy.

- Andrew, London

Nice to see that people are keeping an open mind!

It doesn't look good for anyone in the Met who has been involved in this. But what's even more worrying is the tendency for middle-Englanders to jump to these ridiculous conclusions without a shred of evidence - a nice cosy little cage of cynicism and paranoia you've got going there!

- Cg, London

I know of a police officer who cancelled his membership for the BPA. He took a friend to a BPA party and was told that he should not have done so, his friend was white!

Does the BPA exist to fight racism or does it claim tha racism is all pervasive so that it can perpetuate its existence and its senior members can wield power and enjoy privileges beyond their rank and worth?

- Garry, London

I am totally fed up with these high ranking Officers using the racial descrimination card. It the Met is so racist then how come they have top jobs in the force ? 60K a year - how dare they complain

- Fed Up With The Racisim Card, Hertford

The only fair society is a meritocracy. Positive discrimination of any sort is a disgrace. Far from being 'positive' it is unfair discimination of more deserving people, in this case white Christians. Promoting people beyond their natural ability often results in underperformance, as their promotion is unearned complacency and in this case belief that being a Muslim entitles them to make unfair demands of this nature. The legal system needs to be changed so shirkers like this women have to work just as hard as anyone else to achieve the same rewards. Doesn't this Government realise that EQUALITY should be the objective of any society not a laughable form of reverse apatheid!

- Clare, London

Another one playing the Race Card - diddums

- David, East Grinstead

Ian Blair should be forced to step down.

- Tom Mackinnon, London

Off 'sick' with 'stress' for a year on 60k? How many credible high-fliers in other 'industries' do that? What a huge disservice she does to other splendid people of the same origin (and/or sex), who risk being seen as unemployable.

- Steve, SW19

She needs to be sacked not compensated. She can't do the job and is a racist herself with her fraudulent claims.

- David W, Plumstead

"My suspicion is that some people of non-white background have been promoted beyond their level of competence, and when the pressure mounts on them because of that fact, they look around for a scapegoat."
This type of thing certainly seemed to occur (more than once) when I worked for the CPS.

- Yvonne, Doncaster, UK

I wonder if these two cultures are really supposed to co-exist? Where are the Chritian police officers in Iran, Saudi Arabia...etc? We've given them so much but we're getting tired of being slapped in the face.

- Lorna, London

These muslim MET employees fighting against so called racism are actually damaging race relations more than they are helping them.
Surely nobody is unaware of this muslim agenda that drive's them to behave in such a manner that they accuse an organisation that bends over backwards to promote them of racially discriminating them. THEY WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED.

- Tony, boscombe bournemouth

Why do we need a "senior diversity director?" - her salary would pay for two coppers on the beat. And stress comes with responsibility - if she can't take it she should resign as she has obviusly been OVER promoted.

- Paul, London

I agree completely with Frank and Phil Jones!

- Dr. Dale Barber, USA

I lived in PC California for 10 years, and equality based hiring lead to incompetent and (sometimes) corrupt people reaching high office - just look at some of the mayors ru(i)nning large American cities. The sooner that people are interviewed and selected PURELY on ability - world-wide, the better. Why not conduct interviews and tests behind a screen so the interviewer cannot make a superficial judgement? Anyway, looks like this woman is incompetent and passing (and collecting) the buck - at tax payers expense.

- Vision Aforethought, London & Oxford

Um - perhaps the reason two Asian officers are suing the police for racial discrimination is because they actually have experienced racial discrimination. Why is that such an untenable thought?

- Roxanne, London

Hang on here. Who's the racist here. Is it no wonder there is ill feelings toward the asians.

What the hell.. if they can't take the heat P off. I'm far from being a racist. I'm from an ethnic background myself. If it were an Englishman in an Asian country would they cry racism and get away with it. Get real.

This is nothing more then a case of jumping on the band wagon for compensation. Right or wrong, this person is playing the race card for gains she is not capable or qualified for promotion. From experience, the asians are more racist then anyone I have come across. They have a chip on their shoulder and I come from the far east to have an opinion from working with the asians.

Too boot on full pay for a year.. what has this person got lose, but to play the game and publicity.

Very much a case of the current government and PC going mad. Brown is too weak to make any changes. Merely interested in keeping the keys to No.10

What sorry state. Made a correct decision in leaving the UK as my pension contributions has been robbed. Taxed to the hilt. Sorry for the electorate to have to put up with Labour. BNP will be the winners through no fault of their own.

Very sad to have to post this. God help the UK

- Alec, West London

There all the same aren't they? Foreigners comin in nicking our jobs know what I mean?

I blame that Gordon Brown innit. He aint even English so why is this woman suing our proud Met? This country is going to hell in a handcart. Not in my name.

- Terry Tibbs, London

We do not need Muslims policing other Muslims in this country. I really don’t think this is the way to go. Any officer at a particular rank should be able to deal with any crime. The reality of the situation is Muslims and other ‘minorities’ are being taking into the police force and promoted unjustly over more capable non minorities.

- Paul, London

Eileen O Connor, Cordoba Spain.

They? Eileen, do you mean blacks? Not all that long ago you could have heard the same things said about the Irish.

You are probably too young to remember the time newagents could advertise rooms to let in their shop windows with stuff like this, [ Room to let} 'no blacks, no Irish, no dogs' Lucky buggers Eileen, we managed to beat the dogs into third place.

- James Hennessy, london england

This is a joke....more disputes about race...what a joke this country is becoming...if she can't do the job then she goes...simple plus she's already been paid for a year off on a salary that is almost 3 times mine...they need to suspend her on no pay until this is sorted and yes "where are the WHITE Police Association"????

- Sarah, London

Why is a "Black Police Association" allowed?
What would happen if white officers decided to set up a "White Police Association" and barred entry to non-whites?

- Adam, Harrow, UK

It isn't clear exactly what Ms Rehman is accusing the Met of? Maybe the fact that she has been on the sick for a year is the main factor in this rather than the fact that she is Asian.

- Ian Gilbertson, Newcastle

I suspect there is a gravey train here - which we fund !!

Does anyone know how much the public sector pays out each year in discrimation cases???

- Jeremy E, London

Not another one! This is really getting stupid now. The pattern seems to be that someone can't hack their job, and so if they fall into a minority grouping of some type, they use the politically correct laws to generate some cash for themselves. The taxpayer picks up the tab. Enough is enough.

- Steve Stander, London

'senior diversity director at the Met' pretty much says it all really. Wish I could get a job that paid so handsomely for being a fat white bloke for a living. The Met and the powers that be have only themselves to blame. Fill the ranks of every public sector job they can with ethnic minorities and religious zealots and watch the chickens come home to roost. Muslims especially are like some not very well concealed fifth column waiting to seize power in this country.

- Squiz, Islington

And yet if it were a white employee 'allegedly' being bullied/racially discriminated against they would have no claim because they are white.....

- Anon, London

Who are they? How dare anyone think that this is some sort of plot or conspiracy! How dare you label two individuals as "they" or "them".
Whats is occuring here is something that has gone on far too long in too many established organisations. The police should be accountable for actions deemed as unfair and unjust. regardless of colour, creed or care- everyone should be allowed to work and progress accordingly. And if they have been prevented to do so, on the basis of ethnic background or religon, then they should be brought accountable.

People who object with very obscene reasons- are simply part of a growing group of people in this country who fail to understand a multicultrial society, its diversity and its bring togetherness of this country. Ignorance is no longer what once was termed as bliss, but will be the bain of those who insist it remain in place within our society.

- Sohail, London UK

HR Departments across the country would have to tackle anyone off sick for a year with "stress related" problems to ascertain a return to work date or, if that isn't on the cards, consider dismissal. How fortunate to be non-white British and to be able to play the race card. Perhaps the police should be asked to demonstrate how they treat a white officer in such a situation.

- Ab, London

Eileen O Conor do you have plans to take over spain?

- Anon, Burton, UK

EO, Hardly think you can call it OUR country when you write from Codoba in Spain. Frankly, if you are not here, representing your race, hardly see what you think you are representing.

As for some subversive plot, I think you give her and Ghaffur too mush credit. I think, certainly in Ghaffur's case, thsi has nothing to do with race, simply to do with a boss and a sub-rodinate not getting on - Ghaffur is using race to simply get a higher claim in.

- G-Man, ig10, UK

Off sick for a year? And now she'S suing, kick em all out if all they do is bite the hand that feeds them.

And feeds them pretty handsomely

- P I Staker, LONDON

A muslim can not be a victim of 'race discrimination' as muslims are not a race.

And her salary of £60,000 for 'diversity'? What a great waste of money. I wonder if a white person could have had that job?

- Butch, London, UK

is disgraceful that instead to serve the country and the people(well payed),they just try to have millions pound compensation.is this a kind of new job with the metropolitan police?

- Betty, london

Eileen - I can see this! I see it on the street every day. And our wet government wastes time talking about integration? They don't want to intigrate! As I said in my last comment (they never get published) we were all waiting for them to crawl out the woodwork... and now here they come.

- Jc, London

Are there any police persons of non-white background that aren't suing the police force for racial discrimination? My suspicion is that some people of non-white background have been promoted beyond their level of competence, and when the pressure mounts on them because of that fact, they look around for a scapegoat. Two ways to fix this. Never promote people on the basis only of being non-white and filling a quota. Give extensive psychological testing to all people that apply for promotion to get a very good feel for any insecurities the person has about how they'll fit into the new position.

- Phil Jones, London UK

Easiest bonus in town.

- Ted, London

1/ "Black Police Association" and the racists are?
2/ Another Asian Muslim who cannot handle the work load, wants to quite with a nice payout and easy life. ".. has been off sick for a year .." on full pay?
3/ Fly the racist flag and get those white folk to pay for everything. Easy money.

Labours "multicultural" society working a treat.

- Frank, Home Counties, England.

Oh here we go. We all knew they'd crawl out the woodwork... and here they come.

- Jc, London

This is now getting out of hand. Too many ethnic minority officers are claiming racism for the slightest thing. One of those officers failed in his claim last week - the employment tribunal found against him. It is time that these officers got on with their jobs. London taxpayers are tired of these people. Get on with your jobs; that's what you are paid very well for.

- Anthony, London, W2

So another "top" muslim who has had an effortless rise to the top - with a salary most of us can only dream about - is encouraged by the Black Police Association to rip off - sorry, sue - the taxpayer because she is being discriminated against. How exactly? If she was still a PC on a low salary she might have a case - but £60K? Why is the racist Black Police Association allowed to continue with its vile propoganda? It should be disbanded - or a corresponding White Police Association set up.

- Maire, London

But can't anyone see it? This reeks of conspiracy. First they worm they way into every organisation they can. Then they trot out the race card. What they want is power...to take ver. How much longer are we going to put up with this? Unless we dso something soon they'll have taken over our country. Can't anyone out there SEE this?

EO

- Eileen O Conor, Cordoba Spain

Why is there no Metropolitan White Police Association?

- Helen, norwich

This is looking more and more like a subversive plot to bring law and order in the UK into disrepute. Who will keep the ball rolling next?

- Robin, London, UK

its so laughable. how to make a quick pound. unfortunately i can't play the race card or otherwise i'd have a go at it.

- Jonny, London

Can we please have a police force that actually polices the UK instead of sueing everyone - this is an embarrassment and a disgrace. Finally someone told the bull by the horns and suspended Tarique Ghaffur - well done its about time someone did something!!

- Concerned, London
