Met watchdog chief to resign in new year

Katharine Barney, Evening Standard
18.09.08

The chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority has announced he will resign in the new year.

Len Duvall, also leader of the Labour group in the London Assembly, has held the post for four years but Boris Johnson is set to take over the authority next month.

Deputy mayor for policing, Kit Malthouse, will continue as vice-chairman.

Mr Duvall said he would be "looking over his shoulder" if he stayed at the MPA and will instead concentrate on the Assembly.

But it is thought he wants to remain at the authority until January to see the outcome of the report into the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes and discussions over Met chief Sir Ian Blair's future.

Another labour apparatchick bites the dust. he couldn't manage the Metropolitan Police with integrity and protected the despicable Ian Blair from his behaviour over the de Menzies case in support of the terrible, corrupt Labour Party. A more prejuducided local politican is unlikely to be found. In summary, HE HAS BEEN SACKED.

As an MPA member between 2004 and 2008, representing UKIP then the One London Group, I found Len Duvall to be an excellent Chair. He and I disagreed on many things, and had completely different political affiliations, but he was fair and I could never argue I was not allowed a voice.
