£100,000 for black film

Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent

Film audiences are to get the chance to see more black cinema thanks to a new £100,000 fund.

Film London is setting up a programme to increase the screening of black movies in the wake of the success of films such as Adulthood by Noel Clarke.

Adulthood, set among young people in west London, received funding and distribution support from the UK Film Council.

It went on to take more than £3.35 million at the box office.

The fund was being announced today with support from MP Diane Abbott and Kanya King, founder of the Music of Black Origin awards.

Ms King said: "It's no surprise that British talent such as Noel Clarke are helping to make the case for ground-breaking music and film which has attracted massive commercial success."
