I don't use my wife as a prop like Brown, says Cameron
Paul Waugh, Deputy Political Editor24.09.08
David Cameron's relations with Gordon Brown reached a new depth today after the Tory leader hit back at claims that he used his children as "props".
Speaking at the Carlton Political Dinner in London, Mr Cameron joked that he was surprised that his wife Sam hadn't introduced him, but added she is "my wife, not a prop".
Mr Brown won cheers from conference yesterday with his pointed attack on Mr Cameron's frequent use of his children in photocalls. He today repeated several times his determination to keep his young children out of the limelight.
Mr Cameron last night also mocked Mr Brown's decision to finally "name-check" most of his Cabinet. He said his shadow cabinet was an asset because "they come up with loads of ideas and I take all the credit".

Who cares ? I dont think any normal voter is swayed by photo shoots which include wife, kids, other peoples kids, dogs or animals of any kind. Its all an illusion to avoid the real issues, hoping to appeal to the brain-less majority who go Aaahhhh.. Fortunately 20% of the population still go Puke....

Cameron/Pc Plum has been very quiet lately, could it be because before the the wall street crash he had being an advocate for self regulation for the city spivs. Cameron most certainly does use his children for political purposes. Dave having breakfast with the kids, Dave on holiday with the kid and always a TV camera close by.
Cameron = Blair nmark 2

I once heard it said Blair would not hand over power until Brown got a wife and family. So if you have a trophy wife and kids use em' like Sir Norman Fry in little Britain.
- Mike, London
Cameron has never stopped using his wife and children as props. An intelligent adult can of course agree or decline this involvement, but children cannot. That is a huge difference. Brown has obviously hit a running nerve on this and Cameron has stupidly over-reacted. Also, he must be furious that the Tories did not come up with this stunt first. Now Samantha Cameron will be damned if she does and damned if she doesn't become more vocal. Serves them both right.

Kh,(London UK) why is it that Brownites, Blairites, Samsonites (or whatever you lefties call yourselves)cannot engage in serious debate without degenerating into primitive mudslinging? The end of Labour is nigh. Make way for the Almighty Dave

Remember WebCam Dave? Where your kids had a starring role.

Kh are we to take it that anyone who disagrees with you is a Tory Twat. LOL
- Richard K, Nottingham
Kh has clearly gone to a school in a Labour controlled area. He/she has probably got 10 GCSE's and 3 A Levels with an A grade in English, as proof that our educational standards have risen tremendously under Labour.
It reminds me of the Communists (the bedfellows of the Socialists) who always claimed the most incredible productivity rises in Eastern Europe when all their factories should have been closed down as health hazards.
Never mind Kh you can always get a job as BOOM BUST BROWN's speech writer.
- Richard K, Nottingham
A bit surprising I thought - there was Heathcoat being introduced by the fragrantly individual Sarah - very on-trend I thought - but then he went and spoilt it all by turning self-regarding about his children being individuals, not props. Pity, that. A case of too many hands drafting the speech?

Wow Tom what a witty reply to what was just a typo after all - are you sure the Telegraph is not a little too large for you to handle, or do you need someone to hold it for you??? And as for you M Spanner (by name and by nature as well i assume), i imagine you are 50wpm person???
Is that really THE BEST reply you two tory twats could come up with??? Pathetic........
- Kh, London UK
Please Mr Cameron, don't dig the hole you are in any deeper. The beach in Cornwall; photos of you with your son for Mrs Cameron's company Christmas card folder; the snaps of you and your family outside your local church. Your childish comment last night does you no credit. When are you going up into the seniors with the big boys?

"I AWSUME as a tory you can read Tom (even if it is only the Daily Mail or The Express). Within my comment, did i say or indicate there were no hypocrites in the Labour Party? no i didn't i merely pointed out the HYPOCRASY of Cameron's comment. And you accuse me of sleep walking????!!!!"
Rule number 1 of replying to a post. If you are going to criticise somebody's reading ability, learn how to spell/type.
Brown is just an angry little man who tried to sound brave in the company of his party. It's all part of a phoney devisive PR battle to save his skin. Wait till PMQs when he hasn't had three months to learn one speech & where he is unable to steal rhetoric from Kevin Rudd & Barack Obama

Cameron is the bigest PR stunt man of all. He parades his disabled son for votes, and poses for photo shoots with his wife all the time. The latest, a new line in beach wear (cheap of course) to pretend he's like us. Cycling to work with a gas gussling (briefcase) car following on. I could go on and on. We will not be voting for anyone in this corrupt parliament. Instead, we will be voting for a party that loves this country.
- Sylvia, Essex
What was he doing on that twee photoshoot in Harlyn Bay, Cornwall, if not using his wife as a prop?
- Lindsay, London
Oh, don't be so silly David Cameron - such schoolboy humour suggests you're still wearing short trousers along with wee Georgie Osborne.

He said his shadow cabinet was an asset because "they come up with loads of ideas and I take all the credit".
Note to Mr Cameron; We the electorate are smarter than you give us credit for and do not care either way who brings whos family out for a photocall. And what are these ideas you speak off, does anybody know? Stop your nonsense and start telling the electorate what it is your party will do if/when you enter office. I say this because we the electorate are wising up to your game of saying "nowt" and hoping the labour party hangs itself. Its not enough to "not be" Mr Brown and the Labour party!
- Jc, London
I'd take more interest in your views Kh if you could spell properly.
- Rob, Sudbury, Suffolk
Can we please have and end to these pointless photocalls , jibes and point scoring. It would be good to know what these people actually stand for. School debating societies have a more mature debate about an issues that our current set of MPs (of all parties).
- Michael, London
Kh (London UK), there are no hypocrite among Brown's lot are there? Wake up and stop sleep-walking into another Labour con job man!
- Tom, St. Albans

Brown is a colossal hypocrite with a penchant for telling an endless stream of lies. Just see how he squirms with the few inerviewers who actually give him a tough time (huge national debt, misquoting rivals etc etc etc etc). The man is an embarassing joke I'm afraid. Sarah Brown has been used as prop . Brown has no shame, it's all about saving his neck followed by his discredited party. The country comes a very very distant third.

I thought the children jibe was directed at Tony Blair. David Cameron does appear in photographs with his children but in mi view he does not 'use' them. He is a family man and families include children. When the Browns lost their first child, they had the sympathy of the whole country. Were they 'using' their tragedy? I don't think so. As for the 'innovation' of having his wife introduce him to Conference.. that was simply aping Hillary Clinton. Perhaps Sarah Brown has political ambitions. Still, nothing they do will persuade me to vote for a fourth Labour term! Enough of this useless lot.
- Beatriz, London
Kh, I understand where you are coming from and agree that all politicians make use of their families as and when they can, BUT it is rank hypocrisy of Brown to slag off Cameron when he also keeps mentioning his baby that died, tales abound of his son who also has a disability,he takes their children to the Olympics and tells stories about how his son calls him Gordon and then has to be introduced by his wife at a Party Political conference ala Michelle Obama. Surely these are all props in his life as well ?
- Michael, London
clearly Cameron does use his family as part of his personal promotion. he is very PR focused, it's what he did for a job for many years. It is his style and not Brown's. It is just a difference between them and not very relevant in the big picture.
- Martin_Clerkenwell, london
oh yes you do cameron! you are always posing with your 'stepford wife', and taking silly photos gazing into her eys. Also, you always mention your childs disability when the opportunity arises.
What a hypocrite you are cameron.....
