Payout on way for woman whose 200 shoes are now useless

A BUSINESSWOMAN who says her vast collection of shoes was made useless after she was hurt in a fall at Stansted Airport has won the right to a substantial damages payout.
Tina Knight, 66, slipped in a pool of water in the baggage claim area in July 2005. As well as injuries to her knee, hip and thumb, she fractured her right little toe, making it very difficult for her to wear high shoes.
In June, she was granted the right to a payout from the airport's cleaning contractors, Rentokil Initial Facilities Services (UK) Ltd. The decision has been upheld at the Court of Appeal.
At Cambridge County Court earlier this year, she told of the distress that her injuries caused. "I love to wear high-heeled shoes," she said in a witness statement. "I have about 200 pairs of shoes, but I can no longer wear them."
Ms Knight of Saffron Walden, Essex, is claiming tens of thousands of pounds in damages for the injuries and for loss of earnings during the weeks in which she was incapacitated after her slip.
Unless final settlement terms are agreed in the meantime, the amount of Ms Knight's payout will have to be assessed at another court hearing.

In response to Charlie, London - the litigation system is in place to compensate people who have suffered injuries through no fault of their own. If a serious accident was to happen to you or one of your loved ones you would no doubt be grateful for it.
Sounds like this lady had excellent legal representation.

Seems fine to me. The cleaning company was being paid to clean the airport properly and they obviously didn't do a good job. We all pay for the cleaners indirectly through airport charges. Why shouldn't she be compensated?

That is ridiculous. How are they expected the check every inch of the floor every 5 minutes. So what if you can't wear heels anymore! Arrrghhh can't stand the litigation culture!

Whilst i fully understand the pain of hurting a toe..I broke my little toe a few months ago...I waited patiently for it to heal....and in the mean time wore flat shoes to work...I too work and whilst it was most painful...I managed to carry on...no suing - at least it is not terminal.....I kept saying to myself...there is too much of this something for nothing in the world.
