Housing in 'brickor mortis'

Evening Standard
2 Feb 2012

A QUARTER of properties for sale in London have been on the market for at least six months, figures show today.

And one in 10 has failed to sell since the beginning of the year.

A survey by property website Globrix found the market was slowest in Barnet, where 37 per cent of properties for sale have been available since May and 17 per cent since January. In Tower Hamlets the figures were 33 per cent and 20 per cent. Daniel Lee, Globrix chief executive, said the property market had become "stagnant".

The phenomenon of properties failing to sell after months on the market is known as "brickor mortis".

Official Land Registry figures showed completed sales in the year from last July were down by 60 per cent.
