Murder hunt: police forensic officers at the scene of the stabbing

Man dies after street stab attack close to police station

A MAN was stabbed to death last night only a hundred yards away from a police station.

The victim, aged in his twenties, was stabbed in the neck.

Paramedics rushed to Lebanon Gardens SW18, a quiet cul-de-sac, but were unable to save the man who died at the scene.

The attack happened just before 11.30pm. The victim is believed to be known to police.

Scotland Yard said two men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, but are not wanted in connection with the murder. They are currently in custody where they are due to be questioned by detectives today. Witnesses said a small hatchback car was involved in the killing. This was taken away by officers early this morning for examination.

Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Squad have launched a murder investigation, and road closures were in place today while officers conduct inquiries in the area. The cordoned-off area includes a fire station and an ambulance depot.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Staff will be allowed in and out if possible we would not stop them working."

Queues of traffic were this morning building up around the West Hill area and Wandsworth one-way system because of the cordons put in place.

Jack you have a very selfish and inconsiderate view. I live in the area of the incident and yes it took me well over an additional hour to get to work which included a very long walk around the scene however the feelings of the victims family and friends was predominent on my mind rather than the inconvience that was caused.... one morning that is all it was... kind of small importance compared to someones life. The police at the scene were very helpful in providing additional travel routes, directing traffic and only had a small section cordoned off. Get your head out of the sky and consider the people who have been greatly affected by this crime!!

Oh dear I seem to have stirred a little hornets nest. Sorry to say it but people are dying every day for a host of preventable reasons such as lack of drugs or non enforcement of truck drivers hours so dont single out one life to have a cost benefit analysis denied to folk not getting involved in trouble. As it is since writing I have had it confirmed that most outpatients as well as staff were affected at St.Georges and this is miles from the site of the crime. The idea that the A3 is blocked for a day would not be tolerated in any other european country witness the French opening up the underpass only 3 hours after Diana died.

Has it not occured to you that it is the scene of a murder and therefore needs to be sealed off to preserve evidence and aid police with their enquiries?!

It is only likely to be one day, I'm sure people can cope with a bit of traffic and being late for work/school, whilst others are suffering the loss of someone.

Jack Thompson. How inconsiderate are you comments?
If it were you or a member of your family that had been murdered you would expect the police to do everything possible to identify the suspect and gather as much evidence to secure a successful prosecution case.
It is because of your selfish attitude that this country is becoming broken Britain.

I am sure you would be the first to moan if the trial collapsed due to lack of evidence.

You should be criticising the mindless thugs who are committing the serious crimes not the police that are trying to prevent and detect it.

If you can think of a better way to gather forensic evidence and ease the problems of traffic congestion feel free to hit us all with your wisdom.
If not keep your selfish whining to yourself.

The traffic was so bad it was affecting traffic right up to Tooting Bec. There seems to be no judgement used in these situations. Hundreds of hospital workers at St Georges Hospital were late for work and that is just one example. Police just love closing roads while self important clerks in white suits look for non existent clues whilst the rest of us, and I mean thousands just suffer.

Funny how this our "Nanny state" cameras dont do a thing in preventing crime in the capital, yet we are the most watched nation in the world? Its high time to break down the PC red machine once and for all.
