Hampstead Theatre marks 50 years with mix of old and new

THE Hampstead Theatre is celebrating its 50th anniversary by reviving past hits from the likes of Noel Coward and Michael Frayn.
It is also continuing a tradition of new work with premieres such as The Berlin Hanover Express - the first play from Sweeney creator Ian Kennedy Martin.
The programme starts in January with a revival of Coward's play Private Lives, a dazzling reinvention of which put Hampstead on the London theatre map in 1962. Other revivals include Alphabetical Order, a success for Frayn in 1975, and Observe The Sons Of Ulster Marching Towards The Somme by Frank McGuinness.
Anthony Clark, artistic director, said today: "The programme for the first half of our anniversary year is about where we have come from. The second half will make clear where we're going."
