Philanthropist dies in car crash

A FORMER Vogue cover model who donated more than £1 million to charity has been killed in a car crash.

Socialite fundraiser Mary Howard, 63, pictured, died of internal injuries after her VW Golf was involved in a three-car pile up on Sunday on the way to her granddaughter's birthday party. It is understood that she pulled out of a junction on the A429 near Chippenham, Wiltshire, into the path of two fast-moving vehicles.

Mrs Howard had four sons with her husband Patrick Howard, son of the 20th Earl of Suffolk, Charles Howard. In the Eighties, the couple launched a stallholders' sale that became the largest arts, crafts and home-cooked food fairs in the UK — The Mary Howard Christmas Fairs. She donated much of the profits to charities.

Her friend Caroline Smiley today said Mrs Howard was “one in a million” and “a force of nature”.

I may be a silly yank, but "Car crash kills philanthropist dies in car crash of killed in horror crash" makes absolutely no sense to me.
