Bomb kills two marines in Helmand

TWO Royal Marines have been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.
They were on a routine joint patrol with local Afghan forces in Helmand province when they came under apparent attack. It takes the British death toll in the country to 122, including 15 Royal Marines.
Brigadier General Richard Blanchette said: "Our deepest sympathies go to their family, friends and fellow soldiers."
The marines were both serving in information operations, giving information to local Afghan people. It is not know if their vehicle was hit by a landmine, a roadside bomb or an old "legacy mine" from past conflicts.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown held talks with Afghan president Hamid Karzai today with Britain under pressure to send more troops.
